Obviously some people get into UF with low sat scores, but i was wondering did any CCers get in with a sat score in the 1500-1700 range
Yea 1610 on my SAT, have no idea how I got in.
Congrats!
The “lowest SAT scorer to become a gator” award goes to my friend with 1540.
@cameron326 congrats dude! Was your gpa stellar?
Yeah I had a 1670. 3.75 UW GPA and a 4.8 W GPA. Even had a few Cs. Have no idea how I got in.
I guess I considered my SAT score on the lower end of UF’s spectrum: a 1780.
However I think what balanced it out were my long lists of ECs (I’m a member of a lot of clubs and also an officer of about half of them.) I had a 4.8 weighted GPA and was ranked 2/561 in my class so I think that helped too… Other things that I think contributed to me getting in was: being a first generation student, a minority, and a twin (who also applied at the time and got in–I read somewhere that colleges don’t like to split twins up when they can…not sure if it was true.) and I think I had a pretty good essay that allowed them to get to know about me on a personal level.
Hope this helps answer your question. Just remember that UF take other things other than your score into great consideration.
Not really I had a 4.2, so not compared to some people who have like a 4.7. I also don’t have good extra curriculars either, I played varsity softball for 2 years, and was in NHS, that’s it.
I had a 20 on the act and a 3.94 gpa.
Based on the 2014-2015 UF CDS info for enrolled students (about 6,500 students):
9% scored a 23 or lower on the ACT
1% scored a 17 or lower
4% scored lower than 500 on the SAT CR, 32% scored less than 600
4% scored lower than 500 on the SAT Math, 27% scored less than 600
5% scored lower than 500 on the SAT Writing, 33% scored less than 600
On the other hand, GPA was fairly high across the board.
95% had GPA > 3.75
98% had GPA > 3.50
75% of the class was in the top 10% of high school graduating class
97% of the class was in the top 25% of high school graduating class
Keep in mind that, for example, 4% of 6,500 students would be 260 students who got admitted with a SAT Math score below 500, so it does happen.
UF Admissions would say that 50% of admissions is based on GPA/class rigor/test scores/essay (with test scores being the least important), and the other 50% is based on ECs, talent/ability, Character/personal qualities, First Generation, etc.
I got in with a 1700 SAT, 3.76 GPA, 5.52 Weighted which is pretty good for my school, as my class rank was 5 at the time I applied.
My friend got in with a 1400-1490ish score. She has a 3.6 GPA, has a job, born in Nigeria. She beat out a lot of kids with 200+ higher SAT scores at my school, who have slightly lower GPAs.
We both applied Summer B

@gator88Ne thanks i always notice your replies are very thorough and explain a lot! When you say 95% had a gpa greater than 3.5 you’re talking about weighted or unweighted?
“When you say 95% had a gpa greater than 3.5 you’re talking about weighted or unweighted?”
He probably means the weighted UF GPA, which is not the same as the “grade inflation” GPAs given out by most schools. The UF (and FSU) application require that you input the letter grade (A, B, C, etc., no + or -) of your academic courses, and then UF (and FSU) recompute your GPA, assigning values as follows:
Regular: 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, 1.0
Honors: 4.5, 3.5, 2.5, 1.5
AP/IB: 5.0, 4.0, 3.0, 2.0
As such, it is mathematically impossible to have a UF GPA over 5.0, as that is the highest value you can earn in a course, and it would have to be an “A” in an AP/IB. Throw in a few Regular and Honors courses, and it’s difficult to get even to a 4.5 UF GPA.
By the way, schools such as UF are aware of the grade inflation going on in schools, especially public schools, which are now offering APs to Freshmen (Freshmen!) so they can graduate with inflated GPAs. I know someone from a private school who never took a single AP and was just accepted to UF for 2015! Not one AP! And her ACT was mediocre. Looks like UF is on to the “AP” and “GPA” shenanigans.
@naples13 im aware of UF GPA weighted im also aware of inflation of GPA in publics school as i go to one. Our school does not offer IB or that many AP classes so grade inflation is a problem. The only AP offered to freshmen in my school is AP human and sophmores are only allowed to take AP WH. The social studies AP classes tend to be easy at my school while the sciences/math (understandably) are very challenging. I know kids who had 3.8+ UW gpas get Ds in these classes
@FloridaBoy954
I assume you mean grade inflation is “not” a problem at your school. Good! I just heard of a Freshman I know taking several APs at his high school. I couldn’t believe it.
Hopefully UF and other universities can see through this. Based on what I hear it appears they can - my friend at a private school never took a single AP and was just accepted to UF for 2015, and with a mediocre ACT score! She simply had high grades in all those non-AP courses she took!
The irony is that while public schools are artificially inflating GPAs to make their students appear smarter, those inflated GPAs lead to extreme strife when “Johnny with the 5.2 GPA” doesn’t get into UF.
@FloridaBoy954 GPA as defined in the CDS data:
UF does consider GPA and class rigor. It’s based how you performed vs your peers and what courses are available at your school. If you take the most rigorous course load available at your school, UF will not care if that’s 2 AP classes or 8. It doesn’t matter what your school offers, as long as you excel at the most rigorous classes it does offer.
Still, a magnet high school with a large IB/AICE/AP/DE program is likely to send more students to UF than a high school with only a few AP classes, since a lot more high performing students tend to go to these magnet schools.
I know two people at my school with under 1500.
I thought UF required at least 500 in math reading and writing?
“I know two people at my school with under 1500.”
I don’t believe that; unless they’re linebackers. In fact, I think many of these “I got in with a 20 ACT!” posts are bogus, the fancy of Gator haters.

Only 4% is scoring less than a 500, but that’s out of 6,500 freshman of which 60% submitted SAT scores. So, somewhere around 150 students.
