Did anyone get rejected from a lower-tier UC only to get accepted at a higher one?

^ Similar situation as me.
Accepted: UCSC, UCD, CSU Sac, CSU Chico
Rejected: SFSU, SJSU

Accepted: UCR, UCI, UCSB, UCD, and cal poly Pomona.

Rejected: cal poly San Luis Obispo. Engineering is insanely competitive here and they don’t have that much money. I never asked why they rejected me.

^ For some majors SLO is at least as competitive as the mid-tier UCs

Applied: UCLA, UCSB, UCD, and UCI
Accepted: UCSB, UCD, and UCI
Rejected:SDSU! :P

Waiting for UCLA decision this Friday.

Applied: UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCB, CSULB, SDSU
Accepted: UCSD, UCD, CSULB
Waiting: UCLA, UCB
Rejected: SDSU
And soon to be LA and B :p

i had a friend who was rejected to every UC he applied to: Irvine, SD, LA but got into USC and oxford o__o

^^Lmao really? That’s crazy!! Ahahahaha

Applied: SDSU, UCD, UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: UCD, UCSD, UCSB
Denied: SDSU
Waiting on UCLA and UCB

I applied to CSULB, UCR, UCSD, UCI, and UCLA. Got rejected by UCR and CSULB. I think it was a prereq thing, but didn’t bother to find out way. Accepted to UCI and UCSD. Waiting for LA.

REJECTED: UCR, UCSB, UCSC
Accepted: UCD
Waiting: UCI

Why does SDSU hate everyone o.O

@ crazycollegedays CSU’s are set up is to provide local students priority and SDSU is extremely overcrowded.
That’s why I was rejected to a nearby state school because I don’t go to school in the local county, and I didn’t meet their 3.5 gpa cutoff for my major.

Oh I never knew that!!!

Applied: Cal, UCLA, UCSD, Davis, UCSB
Accepted: UCSD
rejected: Davis & UCSB
waiting: Cal & UCLA

I think UCSD is always thought of as the 3rd best UC and is actually academically stronger in sciences compared to LA.

@CaliDreamGirl

Yeah it is! SD actually has a higher ranking in my program than LA too. Which is Poli Sci. I was surprised

@crazycollegedays:

Not so surprised if you just look at how long LA and SD have been established respectively… SD has only 50-60 years of history which I think is what pulls its rank down behind LA, because prestige needs building in time, which is why Harvard is up there #1 while Berkeley is around 20 and academically is just as strong as any ivy if not stronger. Unfortunately public schools are ranked relatively lower because of its huge size of classes and lower alumni donation.

SD has brought up 17 Nobel winners in 40 years while LA has 12 in its 100 years of history. On the other hand, UCSD currently has more than 60 national academy of science fellows, which is ranked top 7 in the nation and only after Berkeley among all the UC campuses.

I see a great potential in UCSD’s future development. LA is much stronger in Arts and Business though?

Posting for my brother!

Accepted: UCI with Regent’s, UCD, UCSD, UCLA (invited and applied to Regent’s, waiting on decision)
Rejected: UCSB (got wait listed when he was in high school and eventually rejected. This flat out rejection was a surprise to everyone in the fam since he has a 4.0 right now)
Waiting: Berkeley

I’ll update for him in hopefully 20 minutes!

UPDATE: ACCEPTED AT CAL!!

This cycle, my good friend was rejected from UC Davis for Chemical Engineering, but accepted to UCSD and UCLA. He is waiting on Berkeley.

It was the case last cycle at my community college that many of the people that got into UCLA and CAL were rejected from the mid-teir UCs (UCD, UCSB, UCI). In particular, Irvine tends to reject a lot of people that get into UCLA. Irvine is terrible though.

So far I’ve gotten in to Davis and Berkeley, rejected from Santa Barbara and LA, and I’m waiting on San Diego and Santa Cruz.

New decisions:

Accepted: UCLA & UCSD
denied: Cal, Davis & UCSB

I’m satisfied 'cos I never expected to get in LA and at undergrad level I believe LA is just as good as Cal. However, Cal my dream forever. I’m happy that I achieved all this myself and I’m from Ohio :P
