Did anyone hear back from Juilliard or SUNY Purchase?

My daughter has heard that she has passed pre screen and has an audition at Juilliard. We are in the UK and are finding the US college system a bit different to ours here. I am finding lots of information on these forums so thankyou to all!

Congratulations on your daughter’s prescreen pass, jepstar! Is she an instrumentalist or singer?
Glad you’re finding CC useful…if you ever have any questions, I’m sure anyone here would be happy to try to help! :)

I applied for voice and was notified last week.

Yes- everyone shouldve received results by now. Some of us are now waiting for audition dates after sending in preferences. That should be emailed to us this week as well! good luck all!

Hi L, she is a singer.
SHe already has a place offered in the uk for Sept and the Juilliard app was an"I wonder if…" application. Do you or anyone else know how many singers they call in and how many places are offered? Flights and accommodation are booked but I won’t be able to go - husband going with her as I can’t get time off work :frowning: we are very excited!

Don’t know how many get called in for live auditions but were told on the tour that for undergrad voice they take a class of 5 females and 5 males.

Thank you for your quick response! Only 5 girls, wow that’s competitive! Well done to all who made the cut! Now the trials of the financial aid forms!

Actually, several of my friends who study voice at J told me that they used to take a total class of 10, but due to financial constraints they cut last year’s class down to 8. 10 seems to be the max, but apparently the faculty is trying to keep it as close to 8 as possible.

As for the number of callbacks they give, I don’t think there’s a set number. It just seems to be however many people they’re interested in enough to hear live.

Thank you for that, we’ll see what happens!

My daughter auditioned at Juilliard 2 years ago in VP. I believe they auditioned between 75-100 and accepted 8, most of who were sopranos.

She is very relaxed about it all as she does have a place already at her first choice college in the UK so its a win win situation for her … and a mid term 4 day trip to NY! It is such a pressured time for students but I hope she will be able to enjoy the day!
