I got this card that said I have been nominated for membership in The National Society of High School Scholors. Is this a scam?

yeah i got the same thing. i think they are just trying to get your money, since you have to pay to join.

It’s not a scam, but I don’t think joining gets you much.

Yup i got one a few days ago.

It makes excellent toilet paper…well, not excellent, but that’s the most it’s good for

Yep, I got into it.

^^I think it would make lousy toilet paper.
I got one too. It might be useful to impress people do don’t know crap about college admissions, but that’s it.

I laughed when I saw the “Abercrombie and Fitch scholarship” in the letter.

Just googled it. Looks pretty ridiculous.

I’m a member. They sent me that last year and I was gullible enough to join because I thought it was from my school’s NHS.

DO NOT JOIN. YOU DO NOTHING.

It’s the most ridiculous organization ever, profiting off of good students.

The most pathetic thing so far was that they asked me to fill out a survey regarding my shopping at Abercombie and Fitch because they had a partnership. I did, and clicked “never” for everything.

I can copy/paste some E-Mails I get if you guys want them.

I got one too. There are a whole lot of threads like this one though… search for it, if you want more info/opinions.

Sounds like the general consensus is that, while it isn’t a complete scam, it isn’t worth anything (certainly not the $45 membership fee).

^It’s even more of a bargain this year. 60 bucks.

lol my sister got one

I got it last year, and I got it again this year. I never joned either time. It’s really insulting that they think that top students are so dumb. And I guess some are because they wouldn’t still be in business any other way.

Yeah, basically all they do is send out surveys. They do invite you to events at universities occasionally, but it’s not like I’m going to fly to Indiana or Atlanta just for some two-hour event.

I received one too. I suppose that there are some benefits associated with it.

No, not at all.

One creative use of the letters and crap that NSHSS, colleges, and other “high school leadership/scholar” programs send me is saving them all to create some collage. It’s more productive than recycling the papers or burning them.

According to some other discussions, this organization is a scam. I received a letter from them on march 24 as well and was curious. Apparently a legitiment organization will not charge any money for entry. Keep in mind that this is not factual, but I heard this and it made sense to me. I have received numerous letters from schools such as the U of M and Wisconsin and everything they say is free such as campus tours.

There are scholarship opportunities though.
