Did anyone sacrifice it all junior year?

Did anyone leave their friends and life behind to clinch their SAT, SAT II, ACT and AP exams?
Lets hear everyones stories of the worst year ever...
This should attract most of the CC population, cause weve all got a story to tell

I will write my story in 2 months.

We’ll see. But I imagine so.

I’m a rising junior, and I was actually thinking about if I will end up in that type of situation. I’m thinking yes.

Probably me. 5 APs + musical + ACT = help.

I didn’t sacrifice it all, but i was getting there. People know me as the “person who is an over-achiever.” I took 3 AP classes–APUSH, AP Eng Lang, and Envir Science–so my life was basically in school things. My APUSH teacher was HORRIBLE, so i had to study myself for the AP exam 5 months prior to the exam. During break at school, sometimes i had to spend my break in an AP class to do some make-up work, etc. I had NO social life; i went from school, home, from home, to school every day. Then when i got home, i went to homework. The APUSH homework was to identify key terms and write a couple sentences about it. I wrote about a page or more for each term because i wanted to fully comprehend it. By the end of the year, i had 2 1/2 notebooks full of notes–its ludicrous, i know. Then AP exams and the SAT came, and i was more dedicated to those then ever.

So, in essence, my junior year was boring and bad.

yeah same here 12 ap exams (2 retakes cause i got a 4 on stat and macro this year) + 6 clubs + volunteering + busting my ass for a 2300/35 = crying in my bed.
but yeah i mean do you guys think its worth it to lose a year of our lives to chase a dream that we may never catch.
like everyone says if we do junior year right, we’ll be made for life. but are we really?

I did. Even my sanity. I’ve lost the ability to be happy, even in the summer. And I don’t have jack**** to show for it, except perhaps a jaded view already.

@hobbithill, yeah i feel you man. i feel so empty inside all the time. like even when im with friends, i just feel hollow. i always feel like enough is never enough and that somewhere out there, someone is working harder than me. i just feel like im going crazy.

Surprisingly I got by without doing this. Sure, I studied a bit more than usual but I didn’t really lose too much social life/free time. In fact, I jumped 90 points on the SAT simply by reading threads here on CC and merging ideas and techniques.

@joshmay94, which ones did you find the most helpful man?

I don’t think I did, but apparently I did. But I won my class presidency…doesn’t that prove that I didn’t lose my social life amidst the horror of junior year?

@bluedevils, I can’t help you with math because I’m awful with that and nothing worked on the retake. But I can definitely help with CR (30 point boost) and Writing (60 pts)

CR: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html?</a></p>

Writing: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html?highlight=12+essay+in+days</a></p>

Everyone’s different, so it might not work for you. But this worked wonders for me and apparently for a lot of other people. If you take the time to read those two threads and really pay attention to what they’re saying, you can’t go wrong.

And remember, comedic relief is always important during SAT season:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1087610-experimenting-sat-ideas-wanted.html?</a></p>

Hope all this helps!

i think i might end up doing this in the fall when i become a junior, w/ 2 ap’s (might self-study psych, making it 3),a college program, 2 clubs (try to gain leadership in them), might join a third, studying like crazy for SAT, PSAT (i want national merit scholarship), ACT, and SAT II (Physics and Math II, maybe Chemistry), and trying to join the bowling team. and through all of that, maintain some form of social life and the shred of sanity i have left…

its gonna be fun… -_-

No, I’ve never sacrificed my personal life for school. I find a balance between the two brings the most happiness and success.

Oh and I forgot to mention on that last post- the Writing strategy brought me from a 9 essay to an 11.

My biggest regret was having to live by with only 5-6 hours of sleep each day.

My Junior year was hell. I took two AP classes (APUSH and AP Lang) plus a higher level math class – Statistics (which was not AP). Apart with my friends and their crumbling relationships with their boyfriends/girlfriends, my teachers seemed to be on a power trip. Every day it was book work and then a random test. I felt like I was going to crack under the pressure.

Besides the course load, I also had to work to get my ACT score up. Self-studying while studying for classwork all the same.

Then I had multiple clubs (student council officer, volunteer, etc.)

Up until Junior year, the teachers had always said that Junior year was the most difficult. I didn’t think so and really didn’t enter the year seriously. God, I was wrong.

I’m still anxiously awaiting my AP scores, but I can take pride in knowing that Junior year is over for me and I can finally relax and enjoy senior year. The day of my last exam was a glorious moment.

But to any prospective Junior, I would just recommend to STUDY. Study like you’ve never studied before! (Which, I’m sure all of you do, anyway). Unlike my friends, I actually buckled down and pulled through the year with all A’s. It’s possible to survive.

@jayfizzy, god damn i envy you.
also whad you do for the ACT
and for lang what books for a 5?
for us, what books for a 5?

@ronaldo94, the weeks before i took my stat and macro exams i was sleeping 5 hours and i hated it. so how do you live off 5 for the whole year?

^You end up skipping some classes, deliberately being late, etc. Naps at around 5-6 or 6-7, and sometimes 3 hour ones, helped a bit. Sleeping in chunks like that does make you feel a bit funny though.

You also learn to work a little faster. I got a bit more efficient, anyways. Still there was always more to do…
