I saw in an article that EA/ED applicants are up at a lot of schools, but RD applicants were way down. Did some colleges reject more people EA because they thought that they would get a lot more RD applicants too? Also, if people were deferred, then would they have a better chance now that colleges need to accept more people?

Oops, meant to title it "Did EA screw over people with rejections and help out deferrees?"

No, because people that were rejected are behind all the deferred anyway, so they had no chance of acceptance. It just prolongs the agony.

This is interesting! You think the deferred people will have a better chance in the RD round?
Anyone else have any input? I'm really curious

Where are RD apps way down?

I'm not sure, but maybe RD apps were down due to the econ, and people wanted to know their financial aid/ scholarships before they made any decisions so they're applying RD?

I would think RD apps would be up, considering how big the applicant pool is this year and the numbers were up in ED (but not necessarily acceptance rates).

Here's a link (which I'm stealing from another post) to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/22/education/22college.html?pagewanted=1&em
