Did I apply to too many schools?

Well, I only paid for six of my apps and all my transcripts were free. So I only ended up paying for the 6 six schools and some SAT scores.

Someone at my school last year applied to 40 lol

I’m applying to 10. :x Almost everyone I know is applying to more schools than I am. Lots of people have 15+.

I’m actually worried about whether I should apply to 1 more school that I’ve been thinking about. :|

I’m applying to 12, and don’t see 25 as being too far-fetched, under certain circumstances.

Situation 1: The family can afford all needed fees, and the student is aiming for reaches and/or extremely undecided regarding characteristics desired in a college.

Situation 2: Financial/merit aid is needed, and the student is not interested in and/or does not qualify for schools offering stat-based merit aid.

In either of the two situations outlined above, I can see applying to a large amount of schools as being a feasible strategy.

I applied to 21 (im crazy, I no), but for schools like the UC system were its all one app i just got tempted and clicked more then i should have, also for the cal states same thing, i also had a few other apps that were VERY easy, that didnt require essays and i figured why not apply. I’m really happy though that i did apply to all 21, i was contemplating not applying to a few of them, but honestly, i dont want to be stuck in 9 months from now thinking “should i have applied? would i have gotten in?” so what if your school is a reach worst situation is you dont get in and thats that, in the end your going to have a lot of options to chose from. so far I’ve been accepted to 3 schools, rejected from 1, and deferred from 1, so i think iv done pretty good so far. good luck to everyone!

I applied to 16 private schools… I’m low income and need the financial aid.

I also applied to 4 UCs (1 app) and 4 CSUs (1 app)…

technically, that’s 24 schools but only like 3 applications and several supplements. plus I had some fee waivers.

omg i never factoring in CSS profile costs. never thought about it. hm mom wont be too happy about discovering a new cost

originally i started out with like 20 schools
after crossing off some schools and realizing with my procrastination, id never be able to finish applying to 20 schools my list has shorten to 10(yeah HUGE differences haha and my mom was very pleased with that number)
4 UCs, 6 privates :)

but i dont think 25 is too much. If you can afford everything and you reallyy want to explore your options, go ahead :)

i applied to 14…ugh and I thought i was bad

Wow, someone applied to 40 schools?

What is the purpose in doing that?

I knew the OP didn’t pay for all these applications. I did!

Look, my son applied to 10 schools, and we paid the full amount the colleges ask for. We also paid for the SATs scores to be sent. Our HS doesn’t charge for transcripts, but we had to supply envelopes with stamps. Think I’m annoyed (aka mad) that kids apply to so many? You bet! Somebody has to pay and it’s simply added to our costs. We have to pay for their abuse of the handout. (It is no wonder the health insurance bill won’t pass: our country can’t afford it.)

4 schools.

Sounds a bit excessive but I’ve heard worse.

That guy applied to all top 50 schools listed in USNews.

i applied to fifteen and i thought that was a lot, though about 8 of them weren’t serious apps i just it cause they were free.

The more the merrier I say, if you can afford it go ahead.
It increases your choices, it’s probably a lot nicer applying to 25 and having at least 5 to pick from than applying to 4 and having 1 option.
The downside is it costs money, and it might be harder to choice one.

Did you apply to a ridiculous number of safeties? If you carefully considered your safeties and took the time to really consider which matches and reaches appealed to you, I don’t see reason for more than about 12.

not if you’re filthy rich ;)

25…truly incredible (maybe a little stupid though). I’m planning on applying to around 8 or 10.

I applied to 15 also… at least 3 of them were UCs… so I guess i’ll jsut say 13 different applications

My school only allows me to apply to 8.
