Did I miss Illionois University and Purdue University?

I applied for USC and NYU-Poly. I am sure I'll be able to get into both the Universities but considering the ranking, acceptance rate, location and campus did I do any mistake for not applying to University of Illionois at Urbana Champaign and Purdue University? How are the faculty and Research options for both the Universities compared to USC? the UIUC has got an acceptance rate of 71% and few ranks top of USC. same goes to Purdue University.

I am interested in BS Computer Science. I am also interested in research. Did I miss an opportunity to get into UIUC and Purdue? Is it really required for me to wait till next spring intake?

I don't really understand if you think you have a shot at USC, why would you even apply for NYU-Poly?? Even though NYU has a great overall reputation, it has a very weak engineering/CS program

Here are the top schools for computer science (in my opinion):

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Stanford University
University of California--Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign
Cornell University
Princeton University
University of Washington
Georgia Institute of Technology
University of Texas--Austin
California Institute of Technology
University of Wisconsin--Madison
University of California--Los Angeles
University of Maryland--College Park
University of Michigan--Ann Arbor
Columbia University

I am interested in Computer Engineering in NYC. NYU does not have engineering since long time. But considering local ranks of Poly and then acquisition NYU made me apply for it. Besides I only kept it as a back up cuz the counselor has guaranteed the admission.

Now I realize I am a bit late to apply for University of Illionois at Urbana Champaign. But is UIUC better than USC. Then why does it have a very high acceptance rate? Do I still have any possible way to get into UIUS?

Also most of the University deadlines have long back crossed.

hmm well what are your stats like?

even though NYU has acquired the school, that does not mean the engineering school will improve. For example, the ivy league schools have engineering and are excellent schools (of course) but for engineering, their programs are not as well known as schools like Iowa State, Virginia Tech or Purdue, schools that overall are considered academically lower than the ivies. Sure, you get an NYU engineering diploma, but the school is not currently well known and if you have the chance to get a Purdue or Illinois diploma, you should go to Purdue or UI over NYU

Purdue accepts applicants through March 1st. Illinois's deadline has passed unfortunately.

If I were in your shoes, I'd apply to these schools instead of Purdue

University Of Washington - January 15th deadline
Georgia Tech - January 15th
University Of Texas - January 15th
University Of Maryland - College Park - January 20th
University Of Wisconsin - Madison - February 1st
University Of Michigan - Ann Arbor - February 1st

Forget about NYU! through my previous thread I have decided to go to USC over NYU but for now I want an advise for UI and Purdue over USC.
I'll apply for Purdue..I like the campuss of UIUC isn't there any other way I can get into it? and why is the acceptance rate for UIUC so high? and only "more selective"? when it's academics are considered high? I just liked it's campuss!

UI's acceptance rate has been always high, usually ranging from 65% ~ 70%. This does not mean it has a mediocre student body though. U of Illinois has the second highest ACT average among Big 10 publics, after U of Michigan.

pierre0913, Polytechnic University might be ranked low in the USNWR. But it's a great small engineering school, especially for electrical engineering. This is coming from someone who went to one of those top schools you listed. The school has a ton of engineering history, and has been suffering only recently from low student quality.

schools in the midwest in general have high acceptance rates, it doesn't mean they aren't good, or the students aren't good. If you are from the midwest, you'd understand that people apply to 2-4 schools only, when students in the northeast apply to 10+ schools routinely. Furthermore, the engineering schools at UIUC and Purdue are far more selective than the University as a whole.

kb10, considering it's enterpruinal program Poly is good at it. And also a very supportive professors. It is also listed as 6 best university to graduate the most paid employees.

please is there any other way I can still get into UIUC? now I want to apply for it! :'(

I really doubt if they will let you apply. And don't be deceived by the high acceptance rates, engineering at Purdue and Illinois are the hardest majors to get into. This chart is an example why:

U of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements

go to the bottom of the page, look at the ENG requirements and compare that to the other schools at Illinois

UIUC and Purdue admit a higher percentage of applicants than USC or NYU because NYC and LA will attract far more applicants than Urbana or West Lafayette. However, the quality of the students admitted into UIUC and Purdue is pretty impresive.

In terms of quality, UIUC is hard to beat in CS. But is it a good fit? Not that it matters since UIUC's application deadline is past (January 2nd), but you seem obsessed with large cities. If that's the case, go for USC or Polytechnic. On the other hand, if you are truly interested in top rated CS departments, check out the following schools which are still accepting applications for the next few days:

Georgia Institute of Technology (deadline on January 15)
Purdue University-West Lafayette (deadline in March)
University of Maryland-College Park (deadline on January 20)
University of Massachusetts-Amherst (deadline on January 15)
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (deadline on February 1)
University of Texas-Austin (deadline on January 15)
University of Washington (deadline on January 15)
University of Wisconsin-Madison (deadline on February 1)

You really should have done your research on CS programs in August of 2008.

If you want to be in a big city, try the University Of Washington or Georgia Tech. Atlanta and Seattle are big cities.

I'm not completely convinced about going to Purdue for computer science when there are other schools with better computer science programs but Purdue would be a great place to go for computer engineering.

I would highly recommend the University Of Washington's computer science program since Microsoft throws a lot of money into the program, is very reputable, and has many connections with local companies on the west coast (which are many)
