Did I screw up my chances to get in?

Hi! I'm new to this site as a member, but have read many threads on here before. I could really use some feedback or advice on my chances into college. I applied to two colleges, 57% and 65% acceptance rate. I am currently in community college because I was late to apply for colleges last year. I just finished my first quarter and I got a 2.96 GPA, but my grades were B, B+, and B-. I think that B's aren't a good grade to impress the colleges, but my parents think it's fine. Another thing I messed up on was one of my college essays (for the 57% college). I had to write about a topic that I thought was an issue. My choice was obesity because I know more about it than anything and I find it an increasing issue in America. My dad thought that it was a bad idea, so I went with drug abuse and I feel like an idiot because I don't think I made any sense in the essay.

I don't know if the following helps my chances but I'll leave them here to see if they play a factor:
First college student in the family
I went to an online school so no extracurricular activities on record but I've been running for 3 years (with a half marathon and multiple 5Ks) - plan to do track/xc
Volunteered my whole life (4th grade to now) involving children and hospitals
I have enough credits to consider myself a sophomore and I'm 17
Did the Running Start Program and got a 3.4 GPA in college credits and 3.2 in high school
My goal in life is to help others in health; one major thing I do now and want to more in the future is spread the awareness of obesity and how to prevent it - but I've only gotten to tell my neighborhood and an elementary school about obesity and prevention

Thanks for reading.
