I had great EC's, great recs, im athletic, wrote good essays, I had strait A's on my report card, and had a good interview. I got a %78 on my SSAT overall and got wait listed to Exeter. I obviously got past the first round of cuts so do you think it was my SSAT scores that held me back?

I would say no. I recieved a 76% on my ssat and got in.

that's kind of hard to tell. the admissions committee works in mysterious ways. it could have been your diversity, sex, grade.

There is a link in another thread to the Andover welcome to admitted students. Two interesting points, avg. SSAT 94%, and that 75% of students are academically admissible. What does that mean? Stop beating yourself up. Many others were rejected flat out who were academically admissible.

Well..they said the median was 94. Not the average...pretty big difference. I wouldn't say it hurt you..if you had other things that could make up for it.

at least you got waitlisted.
i had tons of ecs, straight a's, good essays, i dont know about teacher recs, ssat 82% and got flat out rejected at the only school i applied to - andover.
im still killing myself over it :[

really, now that i think about it, i think that the ssat wasn't a BIG part of the whole decision.
i had a 91 and got into exeter (still below the median)...

i don't think so either. i had a 96% and got rejected from exeter

No, definitely no.

I was accepted to Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Groton, Middlesex, Gov's, and Brooks

Waitlisted SPS

I scored an 82% (V:89, M:63, R:83) and 86% (V:85, M:86, R:76)

Now I truly believe that scores mean nothing. They simply qualify you, not make you stand out.

O ya..benevolent you check on tuesday. Told you.

I don't think scores count for all that much.

I scored a 97% and I got waitlisted at Hotchkiss and Andover, so...

I don't think your scores hurt you. Maybe the admissions officers were just kind of grouchy when they read your app? Just bad luck, maybe.

But think about it.. if I got the same SSAT score wit not rlly any EC's and like A's and B's
then I woulda gotten rejected. I go wait listed so I think they saw all my EC's and stuff but my SSAT's just pulled me down when being compared to other kids

But theres lots of other factors that could have led to you being waitlisted.

Maybe they already had too many people from your geographical location, or they had too many people of the same ethnicity.
there are people on this board that get rejected every year that have perfect ssats, perfect ec's, perfect grades, and just all around superamazing stats.

It seems like exeter was your top choice, so it kinda sucks that you were waitlisted (i was waitlisted at my first choice- hotchkiss. i cried) but i wouldn't take it too hard. who knows? maybe you still would have been waitlisted if you has a perfect ssat.

maybe.. Im gonna take em again and hope for the best.

mpicz, yeah I did shamefully check... well when I got off the bus my mom was like "You got accepted at Exeter!" I accidentally hit the email. Then I saw that outside my door their was a FedEx thing and it was Andover and I was like "what has happened to my life"

So I checked them all...
