Low SSAT score....still get in?

Hi everybody. I recieved a 73 percentile on the ssats. Has anybody gotten into a good school with these scores? I am looking to apply to kent, loomis, taft, and Avon. Thanks

thats not that bad i got in the 60’s but im retaking

If you retake you can probably get a much better score. I’ve heard stories of getting from the 60th to the 90th

yaa I think u should retake it if u are not satisfied with that score

If I am an overall strong canidate will I get reject at these schools with these scores? I know some averages are in the mid 70s. But I will need full FA. Would the ssats make me less of a chance of getting FA?

Bump…

If you can afford it, retake the test.
The SSATs aren’t a huge deal, but the scores can be interpreted many ways.
Do you have good grades? If you do, your scores would probably say you’re a hard worker.
If you don’t, it would just mean you’re an average student.
Also, sometimes SSAT scores are somewhat overlooked if you’re an outstanding athlete/artist/etc.

hey, i have a question:

I got an 89% percentile on my SSAT’s (85% verbal, 93% math, 77% reading)
Would I be able to get into Exeter with this score?

clyd, I’d retake it if I were you just to raise that reading score.

People get into Exeter with 85% percentile, so I would say do not worry. That is just my opinion but you could still retake it if you want.

Really?

I thought the people who get into Exeter had like 90s percentile scores!

okay so i just got my ssat score and it was extremely wierd.
this is what i got (Verbal: 94% with 761, Math: 67% with 722, Reading: 93% with 722)
and my overall average was a 90% with 2205.

How could that have happened if i completely bombed the math?

Adam, your total score is 2205, and that’s a pretty good score regardless of your not so-good math score. Basically the score of 2205 is better than 90% of other people’s total score.

Hey guys, I just want to know if I will be able to get into Phillips Exeter with this:

I am male, korean, and applying for 9th grade.

I got a 89% on my SSATs, i know it’s sucky, I’m working on improving my reading (currently 77%)

I am in accelerated math, and currently with a 98 average +.
Currently, I have all A’s and A+'s, the lowest grade I got was an A-.
I’m in my Mathcounts team, which is a high math competition
I’m in National Junior Honor Society, which is a community service program.
I’m the Vice-President in this Music Honor Society
I got one of the top highest SAT scores in my state.
I got all Honor Rolls in every grade so far.
I got into 7th Place in a World Finals Competition for a competition.
I’ve been playing Piano for 6 years, and Clarinet for 4 Years.
I’m in my city youth band.
I’m in my school’s REACH, which is a program for the gifted.
I’ve been in my city’s swim team for about 5 years

Do I have at least a chance to get into Phillips Exeter

I think you have a good chance. But a lot of these prep schools seem to have alot of asians who are perfect so that could decrease your chances because they seek diversity.

Yeah, does it vary on whether you’re asian or not?

If you’re asian, does Exeter expect you to get a higher score than others?

oh and urbanflop I see you are very confident youre going to exeter next year (“Location: Exeter in September 2010”)

It does vary on whether your asian or not. Some kids they accept, some they don’t. The fact that you are asian and don’t have the highest stats might actually make them want you more but students still expect you to get high scores even though teachers may see you as being like everybody else.
I am very confident and hopeful and pray that I get into Exeter.

hey, thanks again urbanflop.

I got an 82% last year and was accepted to Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, and Groton.

Well i’m indian, and at 3 schools i have visited so far, i’ve seen maybe one or two other indians. Does that make me an underrepresented minority, or am i still considered an overrepresented asian?
