did take time off - an essay?

<p>I have a 5 year break from HS to when I started college. I'm in the process of transferring now after my soph year and came across this portion of the common app. It asks to "provide details" and upload them here....not sure exactly what it's asking for?</p>

<p>I had an eventful 5 year window post college (pro sports, started a company, joined the military reserves, was even homeless for a month) and wrote an additional essay to upload here. Is that a reasonable direction to go in? This "time off" essay is around 450 words.</p>

<p>Yes, definitely. Admissions officers will almost certainly respect your experience. I hope that your essay points out how these experiences and challenges have formed and matured your character. Show a positive result.</p>
