Did they receive my letter of rec?

So I mailed a letter of recommendation that my boss at a previous internship wrote for me. I addressed it correctly and put the return address of the person who wrote it for me (as I was instructed to by my guidance counselor). I put a stamp on it, and sent it to two of my top colleges. Is there anyway to know if they received it? Should I call? I sent it instead of one of my teacher recommendations, since both colleges want a maximum of three, including the guidance counselor.

I'm just really anxious and I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to call the colleges or not.

Do the schools have a portal where you check your application? It does take awhile for schools to sort through everything and put it in your file.

I have to disagree with your GC on this. If the letter is returned for some reason, you want it to come back directly to you so that you can deal with it. If it goes to another address, it may get misplaced or overlooked and not be attended to immediately. Any LOR should be in it’s own sealed and signed envelope, then you put it into another envelope for mailing with your return address.

Well it’s too late. I followed the advice of my guidance counselor. I have not yet submitted my applications. I plan to do it within the next day or so. However, I did the recommendations maybe about a week ago. Would it be smart to call them?

To be frank, the USPS moves millions of letters w/o any hiccup. I think you’re being illogically anxious here.

I know ( I have anxiety), but they are two of my top schools and it’s a good recommendation, so that’s why I’m anxious.

So I just received account info from one of the colleges. They received everything, but it doesn’t say that they received the extra recommendation. Should I call, or just upload it? The school is in my state, and I sent it at least a week ago.

First, only a week has gone by. Yes, the letter certainly arrived by now but that doesn’t mean admissions has processed it and updates your online records to reflect receipt. Give it more time. Also, even then it’s not clear from your post whether the portal is capable of reflecting receipt of the additional rec because it isn’t among the required items. If the portal doesn’t have a format that allows the school to indicate receipt of the extra rec, I agree with T26E4 that you should not worry. Letter delivery is extraordinarily reliable.
