bought the bedding from RHL, husband just checked and complained the quality is too poor. did anybody buy from RHL, if we do not like, can we return ? thanks

Just called them, they said there is no problem for return, but we have to pay for the shipping. still wondering that they said that 70 % of new students bought the bedding from them each year, is that ture?

I cant imagine 70% bought it through that company considering so many students are in state and can get good deals at local stores

I have no idea why you would want to buy bedding from RHL when you can get it cheaper and higher quality at any Target, Kohls, BB&B, etc.

Decide to return all the bedding from RHL.

Should we buy Twin XL comforter ? I know we have to buy Twin XL bed sheet, mattress pad, etc., in order to fit in the special bed in the dorm, how about comforter ? son just lives on campus for one year, he always uses Queen size bedding. thanks.

It gets cold in Indiana, you will want a blanket of some sort

Our son used his twin bed comforter from home. No special one for the twin XL bed. He used a sheet and comforter only. They could adjust the temp in their room, but it stayed warm in winter anyway. Sometimes too warm. If you have blankets and comforters already, there isn’t a need to buy XL, only the sheet matters.

If you already have a queen sized comforter I don’t think you need to buy a twin xl one. It’s really only the sheets that matter. In fact I read on another thread that a queen sized comforter has the advantage of hanging lower and hiding the junk you might store under the bed :)

Agree that quality from RHL is terrible. My child used it for two years and hated it. Replaced with low cost items from Costco and bb&b

We moved our daughter in today and the mattresses in her room both had basic mattress pads on them already. We washed it and decided just to use theirs so she didn’t have the hassle of storing it all year. We’re going to return the one we bought. Twin XL sheets worked well, as did her regular twin comforter and blanket. We did not buy from RHL.

what kind of comforter should we buy ? white goose down (too warm or not ?) or alternative down ?

We are from Illinois, with slightly colder winters than IU. I would not go to the expense of a down comforter – often too warm/heavy. My D has just a polyester comforter and she has been fine; dorms are warm. You may want to send your kid with an extra blanket just so kid and mom don’t worry, but I doubt it will be needed.
My D’s freshman dorm (Eigenmann) did not have mattress pads, but we had brought one from home (regular twin pad, couldn’t find an XL one). If your kid is used to a decent mattress at home, definitely bring a pad.
I also would recommend getting rubber boots for girls (cute colorful ones or for status-lovers like my D, Hunter boots). These boots are more for rain and slush than snow. Suede Uggs cannot be worn a lot or they get ruined. Guys don’t seem to wear rubber boots but most like my S (at another midwestern college) have regular-height heavy shoes with good treads that are somewhat waterproof.
Also nice to have winter scarves, hats or those 180 ear muffs for guys (that go around back of neck) and an umbrella. There are buses at IU but my D usually walks to classes (max 15 minutes).
One more bit of apparel advice – it is amazing to me how many IU students wear “spirit” IU wear (“crimson and cream” which translates to red and white) – especially on a football or BB game day. Plenty available in the stores on/around campus. That is mostly what my D wanted for Christmas last year!

thank you so…much, MidwestMom. that is great info. I have another question about the bedding, what is the most common way the students do the bedding ? simply put the comforter into removable cover (can be laundered) or have few layers ?

Bed Bath and Beyond sheets…they do not have an XL top sheet, said regular twin is fine, it is the fitted one that needs to be XL…
