Did you get in to USC with an 1800 or any of these colleges? and great e.c./ok gpa?

Berkeley had a really high admit rate this year, so I think I got put into that group of extra students.

Like Collegeman said, I am a minority. I seriously believe I got into USC because of the passion I have for the school that I put into my application, and 2 hooks:

My brother is an alumni

I got a letter of rec from a teacher (USC Alumni) who also wrote one for my brother.

But like Collegeman said (also), admissions can be very unpredictable.

omg wait…do they have a high admit rate for 2010? I’m also a minority and first generation. so i think that’ll help. altho you had a higher gpa (unweighted by 2 points and weighted by 3 points.) my most updated gpa is 3.73 and 4.11 weighted. i thot i had better than that altho i have 2 questions:

when do they look at your gpa? mine will be higher after senior year…anytime like even after 1st trimester.

who takes out freshman grades? like usc or uc schools? without my freshman grades, my college gpa would be a 4.3.

uc’s: pretty much only 10 & 11. I’ve heard of people on the cusp being asked for 1st semester 12 grades from Cal & UCLA. And I did hear Cal’s acceptance rate was way up this year, something in the range of 30%. Maybe less applications than expected? Dunno.

usc: 9-11 (and 1st semester 12 if they ask. They didn’t ask DS, but he sent them anyway because they were good). From the website about 9th grade:
“Naturally, we are interested in consistently strong academic performance throughout your four-year high school record. However, we realize that some bright students, for one reason or another, don’t always get off to a great start in ninth grade. In these cases, special attention is given to steady and substantial improvement throughout the sophomore, junior and senior years.”

woah really? my friend said that all the colleges are cutting down this year but i dont really know if thats true. i hope theyre accepting more! and i definitely am trying to get straight A’s this trimester…i have reduced day (for calculus 2 at a CSU) and AP Latin, AP English, AP Chemistry and a psychology class that is regular. But if I get A’s, my gpa will get a boost.

although, i was thinking about it, and we’re the ones who report our first gpa score right? so if im on the trimester system and the trimester ends in november, then doesnt that mean they’ll have my senior year first trimester grades in my high school gpa? it sux cuz im on the border of 3.75. i have a 3.73 and more ppl at usc have above that obviously. i think it said like 48% and 29% have 3.5-3.74 (which is me)…even though that is a pretty high percentage…but i go to a public high school and last year 15 ppl got into berkeley. 2 got into ivy leagues…which kinda sux too. i know sum other skools have like 10-15 ppl go to ivys. oh well : ]

^Do you know how many people from your school got into USC last year, though?

well…no. Nobody went there last year…i know that for sure becuz they have a school newspaper that shows where everyone is going. a lot of ppl are parsimonious here tho so they might just not want to pay the full tuition and those that didn’t mind went to lower end schools. i know one grl went to chapman and another to cmc…one of my friends got into nyu and not usc. she had a 1950 and 3.8 weighted gpa. but idk if she put she was half black or anything and i know she did volunteer work at the hospital like me. but i think i have a little more on my app then she does like first gen. and a buncha college classes.

man i need to convince myself that i dont want to go to usc lol just in case i dont get in. i have a pretty small chance considering so many ppl have 2200 or around there. i was leaning towards loyola. altho my scores are almost the minimum for ucla but they still fit in that 50% range and they will be higher soon.
