so, I have a 4.2 GPA weighted
and a 3.80 unweighted
My SAT though is an 1850 (600 CR, 650 MATH, 600 WRITING)
I have a really good essay and recommendations. extra curriculars (track, JSA, etc.) and volunteer work
the question is will my SAT score kill my chances in getting into USC
i really want to attend USC next year, so can you please give me honest feedback and some advice.
thanks

you needa boost that SAT, try taking SAT IIs, they only help the cause

You definitely have a chance- others with your stats have gotten in. You will need to make yourself stand out- through your essays, do your best to connect your ec's to your passions and your major.

i'm in the same boat as you....but i'm an international...my UW gpa is 3.8 and my W gpa is 4.1...on practice tests i got 2100 for SAT but when i actually did it it was 1750 (what a big shock for me)..and i'm applying to unis like USC, NYU and U mich...so i gotta boost my retake in dec! my essays and ECs are supposedly great so it's just the stupid SAT score....i hope it was just me having a bad day......

You could also try the ACT. MY son is at USC now and his ACT score was much better than his SAT. We did not send in the SAT at all.

wow i don't understand why people are always so concerned about their SAT scores...i'm starting at USC in spring and my SAT scores definitely weren't the 2000 or so average...you'll be fine don't worry about it and if you're really concerned take it again

For those who are interested, the average admitee GPA at USC was a weighted 4.0, and the average admitee SAT was around 1960. I notice that the engineering school points out that 75% of the students admitted there are at 1350/1600 in the SAT CR + M scores.

What's amazing about this is how much this has increased in the past ten to twenty years. In 1998, USC's averages were 1229/1600, and in 1991, the numbers were 1150/1600 or so. USC just gets tougher and tougher to get into.

Calcruzer: is that across all schools or just arts & science...?? Do the individual schools have stats posted?

The average GPA for 2007 Fall Matriculants (students accepted and entering) was 3.7 unweighted. USC does not quote in weighted GPA.

The middle 50% for SAT was 1920-2180.

I have not been able to find the (official) breakdown for each school.

I think that the link you have provided is for 2006 Fall matriculants, but thank you......

The 4.0 weighted comes from Princeton Review, and is across all schools at USC. Based upon most people taking around 4 to 5 year-long AP/IB courses, that would be the equivalent of a 3.7 unweighted--which means the statistics agree.

Hey cc411, do you know what the statistics are for transfer students. Last I saw, it was 3.57 GPA--with SATs not counting (although they are probably similar to those for the freshman class). I'd be interested if that has changed any. Someone also said that it was about 3.7 for transfers into the Marshall business school--and 3.8 for the Cinema school. (although I see Marshall on their transfer website says they give prefence to anyone 3.6 and above--meaning that the average probably clusters around 3.6 to 3.8). Anybody know how accurate those stats are?

Man, I just can't spell today--preference, preference; not prefence

You are right, rodney, here's 2007-

Unfortunately, I have never been able to find an official post by USC on their transfer admission stats. Anyone else find anything official?
