Many people have stated that they have created resumes and additional supplemental materials to send to Penn. Is it really necessary? I thought I read somewhere that Penn did not want any additional application materials (other than what they asked for).

So, did people not send in supplemental material?

I sent in way too many letters, I think. 2 teachers (with forms); 1 teacher (supplementary, no form); 1 counselor. Unnecessary, really though, to send in supplementary things unless your application has huge gaps that you need to fill/explain.

I personally only send it one supplemet describing my favorite extra - currciular bc on the app it says feel free to alabortae on the activity you like the most. Im planning on possibly sending an extra currciulars resume but honostly itsnot necessary. They get so much of it and unless its relaly gonna make you stand out, sending in a laundry list of activites is pointless. they wanna see passion in only a few which can easily be done through essays and maybe one extra supplement. I also did not send any extra letters of recommendation. I knwo many colleges who dont really want that unless you really think it adds something extra.

i sent in 3 extra letters of rec. 1 from a teacher, 1 from a rep from the American Red Cross who i work with on blood drives and 1 from a long-time mentor of mine.

the letters from the teacher and the ARC rep were both unsolicited (they sent their letters independently. i didn't ask either of them)

i wouldn't send them too many extra stuff though... not so much that it's obnoxious.
however, they can choose to look at it or not. as long as you don't go overboard, supplementary materials can only help you

I sent an extra letter of rec that emphasized aspects of my academic experiences and goals that were very relevant to the joint-degree program I applied to, so I think it helped for that reason. I also submitted a resume, but I doubt it did anything because it was excessive.

Don't send it for the sake of sending it. Make sure it adds something, or else it will take away from the more important aspects of your application.
