On the NYU site there's a section in "Apply!" that has applications do's and don'ts. In this section, it says that any supplementary material will not be evaluated. Does this include extra recommendations/letters from schools/internships? Will it be detrimental to send these things? Any answers appreciated.

It means they will not look at them. Don't bother to send them.

It means don't waste your time. If you already sent it they're not going to reject you cause you did. They're just letting you know that they're looking at 35,000 applications and your extra letters/video tapes/novels your wrote won't be looked at. Instead of sending in the video of the television stuff I've done I just incorporated it into my essays so they knew I did it and it was important to me.

I personally sent in 2 teacher recommendations(instead of their required 1) and 1 counselor recommendation. I felt that I needed that additional recommendation so that they would see me as a more well-rounded individual. I got in. I don't know if they read the extra letter or not. It was worth sending though, in my opinion.

I think I'll send in my 3 recs from teachers and 3 recs from work and see what happens. I already had them for every college I was applying to so it wouldn't be any extra work. I just hope it isn't a bad thing...

6 letters? That's a bit overboard, no?

I'm sending in a cover letter explaining my situation...it's about 3 pages...I'm also sending in a 2 pg. resume. Do you think they'll read it?
