I did terrible in math in high school (C+'s) and I really want to get into elementry algebra (atleast) but I’m not sure if I should just not study and just test into the level I should be in and just work my way up because I am not the best at math and not sure what to do…thank you.
My son took a test similar to accuplacer to go to CC for dual enrollment. He didn’t do much prep but he did enough to understand the format of the test. If you can get hold of some practice tests I don’t think that would be a bad idea. But the point of the tests is placement, as I understand it. You wouldn’t want to get in too far over your head and hurt your GPA.
That’s true… I wanted to test just above the remedial classes so I can take my allied health prerequisites quicker but it may be beneficial to just take it as is. Thank you for the advice. Appreciate it. Xx
What was the highest level of math you did in high school, and how long ago was that?
I study on the first try but did not place as high as I wanted. My community college offers a two week study session for the accuplacer and they pay for it. I took it a second time and placed out of two classes. The higher you place the less remedial classes you will have to take.
Yes, study. You may well be placed in remedial classes that you will have to pay for and not receive any credit for. Not every community college will allow you to retest or revise a placement.
