Didn't finish OCHEM, still got in

I got accepted to Cal as a Cell and Developmental Bio major, but due to scheduling issues and courses offered at my community college, I haven't started taking the Organic Chemistry series yet.

I was looking at the department's undergrad program and these are the requirements in a nutshell:
1) Finish all prerequisites before transferring
2) Declare major after first semester as Junior
3) Complete CHEM 3B (second course)

I let Berkeley know about this when I updated my application, but somehow I made it in. Everything else I'm done with... now my dilemma: I can't take the second course of OCHEM until my second semester at UCB, since I need to take the 3A course first. Should I try to declare anyway after my first semester and possibly get rejected or just screw it and go to UCSD?

You can try to take Chem 3A/3AL in the summer then Chem 3B/3BL in the fall.

UCB Online Schedule of Classes: Search Results

Get into 3A and the waitlist for 3AL

One problem though, 3B and 3BL for Fall 08 are more or less full. If they are not full right now, they will be full by your TeleBEARS date.

Arrrgh, what??!

How do people usually get classes at all if they're all full before registration dates?

you're a new entering student so your phase 1 will be really late but your phase 2 will be really early. Even if you did Chem 3A in summer, you would have a difficult time getting into the Chem 3BL. My advice, do something and get into Chem 3A and 3AL this summer. Sign up for Chem 3B in fall; if you don't get into Chem 3BL, stay in Chem 3B and take 3BL another semester.
