So I was double checking everything on my Harvard supplement and noticed that I didn't indicate that I was sending any supplementary materials. I overlooked it in December that this might include additional recommendations (not just music, art, etc.). I'm not sure then whether Harvard accepted an additional recommendation that I submitted from someone I worked with over the summer that is integral to my application. I tried confirming with their file room but apparently they don't keep records on receiving materials, so I just have to pray the letter came in through the mail.

More to the point: would Harvard have accepted my recommendation granted it did arrive in the mail even if I didn't specify that I was sending it in my supplement (the letter had my name, birthday, CommonApp code, etc.)? My anxious self worries that it might not be recognized as legitimately mine, as my application didn't specify that I was sending one, or that this might have led to some problems in their sorting, having the rec lost amid the files.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

I know it’s too late, but it would be some nice peace of mind … 90% isn’t enough reassurance and in case one were to be waitlisted, it would give me advanced notice to have the letter mailed over again.

I also had an additional rec sent on my behalf (and I indicated it in the supplement). I definitely think they will read it. The admissions officers have been at this a long time. I’m sure they see these kinds of small “mistakes” all the time. And since your additional rec includes your name, common app id etc. then they could identify you would put it in your file. I can’t imagine that this would be a problem. So don’t worry! Although I fully understand your frustration that you can’t be sure they actually have it, but I have sent letters all the way from Sweden to the US many times and they have been gotten to their destinations safely.
And in case you would be waitlisted you could just send it again explaining that you were not sure it arrived to them the first time. Everything will be fine! ;)
