It's like this, I applied to Duke via the CommomApp. In the Duke supplement they said that an Arts & Sciences essay was optional, I had done that essay but I felt that it wasn't very good and so ended up not submitting it. Now that the deadline has been extended could I send them a fax or an email or something?

I'm sure it would be no problem, you could probably submit it under extra material if need be.

Send it with a cover letter explaining that you accidentally left it out. Don't worry about it, the app is due the 12th, as long as you make it clear what's up, it'll be fine

I don't think you could change your common app(supplement included) once it's submitted. It would be unmanageable if every applicant is to change/add their app after submission and before deadline. I would ask Duke before you submit anything.

Yes, contact Duke, you have plenty of time to do so.

I was just giving advice based on a similar situation in the UPenn forum (someone did the same thing and asked UPenn what to do)

You dont need to call them. Just mail them the essay with a coverletter explaining your oversight.

It wasn't an oversight. It sounds like the OP sent the application knowingly without his lackluster essay but now with the time extension would like to take a week and polish it up. I would definitely do that. Email your local admissions representative to tell them its coming and ask if it would be acceptable. Don't say you forgot, tell them the truth.

There's also a part of the Duke website called "The D"; if you ask a question through that you normally get a reply in a day or two.
