I made a HUGE mistake.... I submitted my application to NC State, but I didn't upload a personal statement.... OH GOODNESS I'M STUPID...
I submitted some of the other responses, like describe an obstacle you've had to overcome, in which I wrote about dealing with a mom who was addicted to drugs with no help and how I was forced to grow up fast, as well as wrote how I had to cook and clean for my 3 little sister's, but I didn't actually submit a personal statement.
My GPA and class rank are good, but my SAT reading could have been better (my math was good...). However, I am retaking the SAT in less than a month, so maybe it will improve enough to where I don't need to explain myself. WHAT DO I DO?!?! Is this a deal breaker?? Thanks...

Im crying now… literally… I don’t mean to be melodramatic, but there are so many things I wanted to mention, like how I love this college because it was the first college I visited, and how seeing it gave me hope for my future because of my childhood, or how moving a lot impacted my life and who I am today. My life has been a huge emotional roller coaster, I’ve had to deal with more than people twice my age have to deal with, and I really wanted to portray that in my application. I feel like this could potentially be another disappointment out of the many that I’ve already experienced in my life, I didn’t get to fully illustrae where I came from to the admissions department and not being accepted because of this would devastate me.

I really wish I could help you but I don’t know much about the admissions process and how this will affect your chances, but I do wish you good luck and I know that if you’re meant to get in, you’ll be able to do so.

Why don’t you call the admission’s office and see if you can still submit it? It wouldn’t hurt to try!

I didn’t want to call them today because it’s Sunday, so I emailed them. If I don’t get a response in a few days, I’ll call them. Thanks. I hope I can still get in regardless on if I’m able to get a personal statement in or not.

Actually, the personal statement does help, but its optional for a reason. I think you still have a great chance of getting in without it. The personal statement is supposed to give the admissions people a little more insight on your life and who you are as a person, but it seems to me that your other responses gave them that. Dealing with a drug addict mother and still being able to maintain a good GPA and a good class rank is very impressive and something they will not overlook. The NC State admissions people know their college is great, they don’t need a personal statement from you to tell them that. Do not stress out, when I went to a college essay seminar on how to write my personal statement for state (I applied on October 15 too), one of the first things they said was that the personal statement isn’t what gets you into the college, its your grades and the classes you took. What is your GPA? How many AP’s did you take?

Think about it. NC state accepts about 50% of applicants. Someone who has had as big of an obstacle in their life such as dealing with a drug addict mother and still did well in school is going to set them apart and get them into that 50% of people accepted. In order to be sure, you should probably tell us your GPA, class rank, and the classes that you took to see how good of a chance you have. But overall, don’t worry about it.

Write up the personal statement and have it ready to submit after you get further instructions. If you don’t get a reply to your email by Tuesday afternoon email them again or call them. I bet quite a few people forget to submit certain files. Good luck.

I agree with the rest of these people, try to get it in, and if you can’t, at least they will know your story :)

@papasfritas114 My GPA is 3.8 UW 4.625 W, class rank is 9/265, and I haven’t taken a standard class besides foreign language since freshman year, and the standard classes were required electives and P.E. 20 Honors and 5 APs so far (my school doesn’t offer a ton of APs, 3 of them were year long) including math through both Calc and Stats and science through AP Biology.

And thanks for your guys’ response, it made me feel better :)

I will try to get it in to set me that much over the edge, but if I don’t, I know at least my short essays tell a little something about me.

I just got in touch with them, and they let me send my personal statement with no problems! My statement is extremely personal, and I have no clue if it will aid in my admissions, but at least I know my application is at its full potential. Thanks to everyone who answered :)

YAY! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! :)

THANK YOU! @EllieJoe

Also, I went to go check to see if it was uploaded, and it says the last time my application was updated was 10/20/14 at 9:59 a.m., which was literally 10 minutes after they told me it was okay to send it. I didn’t send the actual statement, however, until 6:00 p.m. later that day… What could they have possibly updated? I’m probably overreacting lol.

Anyway, Thanks to everybody again, I know they will have it taken care of, and maybe I’ll see some of you next year! :)

I am glad you were able to get your Personal Statement added. I just returne from Open House. The Admission Officer told us to take the position that nothing is optional because the Personal Statement oftentimes serves as a positive.

It’s October 31st and my personal statement still says “Not uploaded”… should I be worried? I believe they will include that in my application, but where could they have put it???
