My daughter is beginning to look at colleges with ACEND accredited undergraduate programs with the intention of becoming a registered dietitian. We are looking at coordinated and didactic programs in dietetics, as our understanding is that she will not have completed the necessary courses with other majors/programs. We are also aware that a Master’s degree will be required beginning in 2024, but if anyone has any insight or recommendations into some of these programs and which colleges might be worth looking into, we’d greatly appreciated it! We’ve done plenty of Googling but would love hearing from anyone with firsthand experience. Ideally, she would like medium - large-sized schools in the eastern half of the country (midwest is fine). Thanks in advance!
Look at SUNY Oneonta. They offer seniors early admission into an online MS program for 50% of the seats. I know someone who did their undergrad program before doing a community focused internship and graduate credits elsewhere.
I believe that University of Maryland and U of Virginia both have didactic/coordinated programs in dietetics. However, I can’t really comment on the quality of these programs. My degree in Nutritional Science goes back to the mid-1980s. Good luck!
Will do. Thank you! This was not a school on our radar.
Thank you! We are aware that UMD has a good program. UVA only has a dietetic internship, but no undergraduate program. That’s part of the reason we are getting stuck. A lot of the colleges with hospitals offer internships but not the opportunity to get the undergraduate degree required for the internship.
