Since there've been a few questions on marking your ethnicity on apps today, I remembered something I was confused about: On the common app, there's a box for Asian, and one for Asian-American. I'm not entirely sure what the difference between them is. Is the Asian option for internationals who actually live in Asia? I'm Asian, but I've lived in the US since I was three and have US citizenship. So do I count as Asian-American?

I have the same question. I'm Asian, permanent resident but not a citizen - which category do I fit into?

it seriously doesn't matter.
Just select either one.
No one's gonna go "oooh he has -American in the end, let's select him!".

Yeah, I know it doesn't really matter (Asians are disadvantaged period), but I'm still curious as to what the difference in classification is. I just don't get why they have both choices.

If you are an American citizen of Asian origin, you are Asian-American. If you are a non-American passport holder Asian, you are Asian, and therefore, international. I have no idea about the green card holders.
