forgive for my ignorance but im just curious, im not even majoring in marketing, im majoring in advertising, but between the two schools i plan on going to, only one of them offers a advertising degree the other offers a mass communications degree with specialization in advertising (ucf and usf), but idk the difference between the two?

You have to read the descriptive material the schools provide, or ask the professors. Advertising is a part of marketing. Marketing is about product, price, package, place. Marketing is communicating value to consumers and that involves more than just and ad or a commercial. Advertising isn’t concerned with whether people actually want the product that is being sold. Marketing asses customer wants and needs. Advertising is not concerned with whether a product is affordable or whether there is a good enough profit margin. Marketing determines price and analyzes whether a specific price will drive down (or up) demand. Marketing determines the values a product brings and advertising tells people about those values.

Advertising is concerned with the dissemination of information and presenting that information in a manner that will attract active purchasers and potential customers (prospects). Not everyone needs or wants to buy something now but Advertising helps build product awareness. When a prospect is ready, they think to buy your product because your advertising is what they remember first. This is an art form because it requires the use of the right words, sounds, colors, and timing to get the message across. Comedians and magicians are among the best at presentation. They master timing and punch lines in a manner that holds your attention and effects your experience to the extent that you never forget (nor do you want to) what you heard and saw.

Sales and customer service is about relationship building. They are parts of marketing and use advertising skill sets and psychology to build trust and confidence.

There is no business without marketing. All marketing is about business. It’s identifying and communicating value to the consumer; whether the consumer is a soda drinker or a voter at the polls.

^ I left out positioning, competition, and industry analysis.
