I’m a senior in high school and I’m getting a head start on buying books and I was just wondering if there is a difference between Campells 9th and 10th edition? I would rather not spend $200 on a new book if I could get the same one much much cheaper, but just a different edition
I’m pretty sure there are minimal differences between editions of textbooks, especially ones that are only one edition apart. Go for the cheaper version!
You don’t need to buy textbooks until after the professor specifies which ones are needed and which editions are acceptable.
The edition matters if problem sets or questions are assigned from the textbook - this is especially true of certain STEM classes.
Don’t buy the textbooks yet. You might not need them.
It is often very important to get the same version your professor is using…If they say turn to page 394 you will be looking at the same info. Also the homework sessions may not be the same.
I’m an adjunct and sometimes even one difference in the edition # causes problems because, as others have said, the page numbers don’t match up and the questions at the ends of the chapters can be different. Sometimes people will keep their cheap edition for reading the chapters, once they’ve translated the page numbers into their edition’s. And they use the library reserve copy for the questions. Only you know how much that extra level of complication is worth in $$$.
