I see that the common app has the standard transfer essay along with an option for addition writing to "provide details of circumstances or qualifications not reflected in the application". Then there are some colleges who require supplemental questions, but some do not.

And than separate from the common app, I see some colleges require a personal statement. Does this mean a separate piece of writing directly sent in the mail along with the other stuff that needs to be physically sent?

For the colleges that do not require supplemental writing, would it be appropriate to make up a question or a few and send them those as supplemental writing, or is this a waste of time?

Is the transfer essay similar to a regular college essay in that it is more "story-like", or is that for the personal statement, and then the transfer essay is used to highlight achievements? Or is the additional info the place used to highlight additional achievement?

In the essay you should address the specific reasons why ‘X’ college is the better choice for you. You can revise your essay up to 3 times – meaning that you can tailor your essay to a maximum of 3 colleges and then the system “locks” your essay.

Each college might have additional supplemental essays questions. For example, Yale asks several additional essay questions
