Differences between Boston College & Boston University

What are some key differences between Boston College & Boston University?

BC is located on a central campus (Chestnut Hill) while BU is just spread out. There aren't many locations for students to congregate at BU. BC is also higher up in academics.

BC is a Jesuit college; BU is non-sectarian. BC is significantly smaller than BU. BC is heavier into sports than BU. BC has a suburban, beautiful campus; BU is urban and has little campus - it's mostly buildings along city streets. BC has a single undergraduate school; BU has multiple schools and you apply to a particular school.

Chedva's post above it correct except that BC has four undergraduate schools: College of Arts & Sciences, the Lynch School of Education, Connell School of Nursing, and the Carrol School of Management.

BC is much harder to get in to than BU
Student makeup is quite different as well.

GWU is to Georgetown as BU is to BC....

not a perfect analogy but in many ways it works.

BC is a Catholic school, BU has no religious affiliation.

what makes BC academically superior to BU?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-university/217997-difference-b-t-bu-bc.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-university/217997-difference-b-t-bu-bc.html</a></p>

BC overall has better programs and is more prestigious than BU.

what does it mean to have a "better program" what makes one program better than another?

Usually, there are better resources (such as libraries) and better professors (Nobel Prize winners vs. virtually unknown). There are, of course, other factors, such as research output, number of undergrads who attend grad school, etc. etc. etc.
