differences between taking cs - lsa or cs - coe? (umich)

I don’t know which college to apply to. What are the differences between the courses, which has a more rigorous curriculum? I’ve looked into their websites but I’m still clueless, please help. thanks!

Apply to LSA, better odds of getting in. You can always switch to engineering later.

Main differences:

LSA - 4 semester language requirement. 2 semesters of writing requirement. Wide distribution requirements. Only have to take up to Calculus 2.

CoE - no language req. Physics and chemistry requirements. Have to take calc 1, 2, and 3 or 4.

If you are more math oriented, apply to LSA then swap to CoE sophomore year. If you are not great at math, do LSA.

I’m a sophomore in CS LSA, and both my roommates from last year (and who I am living with this year) are CS CoE students.

I consider myself bad at math, which was my sole reason for going LSA. In my opinion it was a great decision. I generally take 2 CS courses a semester, and then 2 joke LSA courses. Even though I would consider my roommates to both be smarter in general, and definitely better at programming, my GPA is a 3.9 while they have a 3.2 and 3.5.

From what I can tell, companies don’t care if you are CS LSA or CoE. All 3 of us got full-time summer internships out of Freshman year. (myself at a small local tech company, roommate 1 at a startup in Cali called Weebly, and my other roommate at Google in Cali)

Thank you so much nomerci !
