different essays in Common App

Our D is applying early action to some schools, but she is still working on her essay. She would like to revise it later for other schools that don't have early action. Is this possible on the Common App? Has anyone actually done this? Thanks for your help.

My understanding is that after each submission of the Common App, the essay is “locked.” It can be unlocked and edited a maximum of two times for submission to other colleges. So an applicant could have up to three different versions of the essay that get submitted to three or more different schools. Unlimited edits are allowed for other parts of the Common App.

That is correct. The essay will be locked after each submission. You can only unlock it twice and then it becomes permanently locked.

Our D has actually done this. It works exactly as the above posters have described.

In previous years there was a way to copy a common app and be able to edit it…not sure if it works with the new:

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Default.aspx?allowcopy=true

^The system is entirely changed from prior years. There is no longer a need to create a whole new version if the applicant wants to make changes between submissions. Only the one essay is locked between versions. All other parts of the application are fully and directly editable.
