Difficulty of External Transfer into UT Austin's RTF major?

Hi guys!

I know there is no absolute way to answer this with any certainty, but ever since finishing my application it’s been driving me crazy not knowing whether or not I should get my hopes up.

I applied to transfer (from Boston College) into UTA’s RTF major. Just how difficult is it to transfer in externally? I was in the top 5 percent of my high school class with a final weighted GPA of 4.8 out of 4, but getting a C+ on my first college Biology exam has severely impacted my GPA.

I’m currently a sophomore, and my GPA is at 3.51. It drives me crazy that it’s so low, and I fear it may keep me from getting even a second glance in the admissions process. Am I right to be concerned? Will they look at the difficulty level of BC classes, or acknowledge that my GPA is largely as low as it is because of one class I shouldn’t have taken?

Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I just found this post of yours. There is another thread that is active that talks about transferring into UT Austin externally. You might find it helpful (although sometimes there is weird banter on there). In that thread, some folks are going for RTF but many others are going for different majors. Here is the link to that thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1794646-spring-fall-2016-transfer-thread-p3.html
Good luck!

When you say UTA - do you mean UT Austin? UTA generally refers to UT Arlington, but I’m assuming you mean Austin. You have fabulous HS stats, but unfortunately as an external transfer those will not even be considered. It will all be your college GPA, resume and recommendations. I have no way of giving you any idea of your chances. All I can tell you is my daughter has a 4.0 trying to transfer in and we are very much expecting for her not to get in and have a backup plan in place.
