my name is AJ (new to this site)
can somebody please help me?
can i get into UT Austin (my Dream School)?:
im currently a student at Houston Community College and i really want to transfer to the University of Texas at Austin next fall (Fall2012).
-im an Economics Major (Liberal Arts COLA)
-i received all A's this semester and my transfer GPA as of right now is a 3.14 with 35 credits.
-im taking a winter mini mester class currently and plan on sending my transcript in January/February
-im taking 5 classes next semester (Spring 2012)
-im very active at HCC (Houston Community College)
-at HCC im an officer of the Political Science Club, member of Student Government, an HCC Ambassador, and im the President of a club that i created in my government class as a project handed down by Apple (yes THE Apple company) that assist students in finding ways to save money for college.
-i also am getting 3 Letters of Recommendation (including one from my Economics Professor)
-what are my chances of getting into UT Austin?

I’m not very familiar with external transfers, but I do know that GPA is a large factor and that a 3.14 is rather poor. Though the rest of your application seems strong, such a low GPA could kill your application outright.

btw, I’d highly recommend creating an account under an alias any time you post on a forum. Many random and anonymous internet browsers will view this thread, and any one could maliciously exploit the information you’ve freely given out after it’s been tied to your name.

Th average GPA of an external transfer into COLA is about a 3.5-3.6. That means that there are a lot of peole with 4.0’s and a lot of people with 3.3-3.4’s. If you have a 3.14, I’d say you have VERY slim chances of getting in. COLA is the easiest college to externally transfer into though. Like frever said, your cumulative GPA is like 95% of the application - that seems to be the only thing they take into account.

You need to be patient and take another year of classes to get that GPA up.

@Frever : yes i know my chances are slim,as i previously stated i will be taking 5 classes in the spring semester and have a chance to raise my gpa to 3.4.
i know that i most likely wont get in but i plan on appealing the decision at the end of my spring semester and hopefully will get accepted then

AJQureshi-Your GPA is kind of low. If you can get that 3.4, you will have a better chance. Good luck:)
