Difficulty of Getting into Classes

Hi,
I was recently accepted to Pitt and it's a top choice for me, and I was wondering if any current or former students could tell me about how hard it is to get into specific classes. Specifically, the Economics and Political Science classes, because those are my interests. Are those popular at Pitt? Or are there usually enough spaces for everyone.

Thanks a lot.

Also, does Pittsburgh offer many internships for Economics/Political Science majors? Or are they hard to come by? thanks again.

There is usually no problem eventually getting the classes you need. As a freshman, there may be some classes that are already closed by the time you register but there are always plenty of other choices left. If you really want to get into a closed class, you just have to be a little more persistent about it by asking for a permission code or repeatedly checking the class’s status online, and more than likely you will be able to get into it.

Economics and political science are very popular majors, and as a result both departments have a lot of offerings when it comes to classes. I’d definitely say it’s enough to meet the demand.

During your first two years of college, there is always some difficulty getting exactly the classes you want. I don’t know how the PS/eco departments are, but in every department certain classes are challenging to get into.

QuantamMarcus gives good advice. In addition I would just suggest being flexible about your schedule. When planning your schedule, keep one or two backup classes in mind to take in case your desired class or section is already full. You can always drop the backup later if the desired opens up. During add/drop, people are constantly switching in and out of classes, so you normally end up getting what you want.

Also, I don’t know specifics about the internship thing, being a science major, but I feel like there are opportunities everywhere. I’m sure if you talked to an adviser in your department, he or she would be able to make you aware of what’s out there.
