Well I recently received an email last week from Amy Calhoun(the person in charge of Digital Media Design at Upenn I guess). She told me that she had received my essay on DMD from the Admission Officers and said it was "superb" Then she gave me a lot of information about DMD. I wondering if any other DMD applicants have received this email and I am also wondering how this email affects my chances.

Probably a good sign.

My daughter also applied to DMD and we recieved a call from her admissions advisor saying the committee had some questions about her high school class schedule, and then she too recieved an e-mail from Amy Calhoun clarifying some things the committee asked and giving more info about the program. I hope this is a good sign-at least the committee was actually looking at her application. We met with Amy when we visited Penn and she and the DMD program both seem incredible. We can't wait till monday at 5pm!!!
ps. in her e-mail Amy said thanks for the great portfolio!!!

^^ Ahhh I feel in love with DMD last year (as a junior); partly because Amy was so cool when i met her. I regret not applying though :(...

I would not get your hopes up. We had a very similar experience with her last year. We visited the school with our son, met with her and she encouraged our son to apply to the DMD program and to put together a portfolio for her review. My son spent many hours putting together the portfolio and later submitted it to her. She got back to us by email and told us that our son's portfolio was outstanding and that he should apply for early decision. She emailed us that she would personally take the portfolio to the admissions committee and get back to us. She never got back to us. Our son was deferred. After that, my son wrote her follow up emails and left telephone messages for her, none of which was returned. We had no idea why he was deferred. My son was so turned off by the process that he applied early decision-2 to a different school with a similar program and was accepted. I think she is an enthusiastic recruiter and is very good at our job, but we were very disappointed by her lack of candor and unavailability. I wish you better luck.
