In senior year I wil be facing two options for my social studies.

1: AP European History. Well, honestly, although I am a social studies freak, for no particular reason I am not very attracted to history in Europe...

2: two semester-long electives. Our school offers amazing electives in social studies area. I am currently very interested in History of Western Religion and American Government (my school doesn't have AP Govt, sucks).

Past experience indicates that I learn with much motivation in the courses I like and thereby get A's even sometimes overachieve in them. I am also capable of earning A in class I dislike, but I would feel very pressured (even though the work load might be the same as the course I like) and sometimes it is hard for me to have profound comprehension of the material...

Here's the catch: I am taking 3 APs currently as a junior. If everything goes on well and not counting social studies, I would be in another 2 and a college-level class (MV Calc). And now all the good schools I plan to apply to value a lot in the rigor of a applicant's high school course load. An AP Euro would definitely appeal more than two semester-long electives... or one more AP won't matter that much? Follow my guts? I have been following my guts my whole life. And I know not to be controlled by college. But this time is about whether or not I will get in the school I desire. I really vacillated.

Sorry if I sound a bit rattled. Please help. Thanks!

well your right an AP course would be a lot more appealing than two electives, but given your course load with 3 APs already, I'd say you're ok taking the electives.

As a junior I had to choose between AP Eng Lang, which I thought sounded absolutely miserable (even though I do like English) and two amazing semester electives. I ended up choosing the electives, which turned out to be the best classes I have ever taken. I don't regret my decision at all.

Can you take the AP and the electives? That's what I did for two subjects my senior year.

I took AP Euro sophomore year and I am glad I did. Euro history involves so much about religion (seeing as that is another option). If you think about it, the majority of the wars in the past were caused by religion.

However, i am taking AP gov. this year, and although yours won't be an AP class, i think government is my favorite history class I have taken. It is so practical and I am going to use everything i learn in the class.

Do what you want, seeing as both of your options are academic, I think that either will be fine.

My school does the exact same thing. My junior year I took AP Euro instead of two electives. I decided that I could take the classes I wanted to take my senior year. I ended up not being able to take the one elective I really wanted (actually because of my MVC class...) which was dissapointing. I enjoyed AP Euro a lot, but I was already interested in european history, so I would recommend not taking it. You'll get to take the classes you really want to and I have since found out that a lot of colleges don't accept AP Euro as credit, even though I got a 5. So go ahead and take the elective. You've got enough APs and MVC besides. You'll be fine.
