Is the extra ap worth the stess.

My question is if I should take ap euro/ap European history or honors global history 2. Please read below to see why I am torn and tell me which option you think would be better for college.

I go to school in New York State. I am smart and I would like to go to an Ivy League or a school such as ucla. Because of this I am very concerned about how well my transcript will look. I was a freshman the past school year and I took 1 ap class- ap environmental science. Some freshman took two aps- environmental and ap human geography. Next year I will be a sophmore because I was in ap environmental science I was placed in ap biology which I am going to take along with about 10 other freshman the rest of the kids are upperclassman. In addition to ap biology I will also be taking, honors chemistry( it's required I take this in nys), research elective- we work on research projects to enter in big competitions as seniors (only 10 kids in my grade were recommended for this), honors algebra 2 and trig, and other honors courses. I will only have a 1/2 year or no lunch. (Not sure yet cause I want to do a business to participate in Deca but all 1/2 years are full ATM so currently in full year) but the business course is very easy. I do a club everyday expect Fridays. I participate in many acedemic competitions and I do diving and winter track as sports which are everyday after school for 1.5 quarters each. My grades are good. I have a 95.3 unweighted. I will be starting my gold award project in Girl Scouts next year. I have ADHD and have some trouble focusing. I have trouble falling to sleep at night- wont go to sleep before 12:00 even if I had no homework. I have some anxiety not major and it's more fear not really stress about school. I don't know if I should take ap euro or not I hear it is a lot of work! But is it worth it so I take an ap? About 12 kids are taking the both in my school. One girl is taking ap bio ap euro and ap art history. About 12 kids are taking ap euro and ap art history because they didn't get into bio. I don't have room in my schedule for ap art history nor room in my brain to store info about something I hate. Is it worth it for me to take ap euro. I just don't know cause my other grades in other classes may go down also. I cannot try EUro and drop it because if I do I will not be able to get into honors global. I will have to take regents which my guidance conseulur thinks is not a good idea. Thank you very much! This is my first post on this site

Highly selective universities, such as the Ivy League institutions, generally admit applicants who have taken the most rigorous coursework available to them and excelled in those classes.

This is not a recommendation for you to take additional AP classes if it will cause excessive stress in your life. Your health and mental well-being are far more important than which college you attend. Also, you should never make a decision based on what a group of strangers might consider important.

However, realize that applicants from around the world are competing for a finite number of positions in the freshman classes of Harvard. You should look far wider for your competition than simply your classmates at your high school.

As a rough analogy, I would love to run in the Boston Marathon. However, the time and effort required to qualify, as well as my limited talent level, would make it prohibitively difficult for me to do so and detract from my overall quality of life. There are hundreds of other marathons that I can run in and enjoy almost as much, while still enjoying other pursuits fully.

Rmldad.
Thank you for the suggestion, it was very helpful. Do you think iit is better for me to take euro even if i feel that my average If show is it as much work as everyone says it is.

don’t do it. don’t take a subject that you know you hate (on top of all you’re already doing), because you think it’ll look good. honors global history 2 is still a very rigorous class (it is honors, after all). very small distinction between that and ap euro.

how many kids are there in your class? it sounds like your schedule will be marked “most rigorous” even if you take a study hall next year

About 350 kids in my grade. I want to take lunch but I cannot due to my schedule and thank you. I mentioned I hate ap art history. I don’t know if I hate European history though. ^^^^

Don’t worry about which box will be checked by your GC in a couple years. Don’t worry about what others think is “hard” or “looks good”.

Take those classes that you want to take. Pursue activities that you wil enjoy. Don’t give up lunch (or other free time) only in hopes of that an adcom will like your transcript slightly more.
