Hey, I recently received a likely and was wondering if I should go to Dimensions in April or just visit on my own for a weekend.. I would love to go to Dimensions, but it is Thursday-Friday (16th-18th of April) and I already have plane tickets for Yale's Bulldog Days the following Monday-Wednesday. And I'm missing 3 days of school in February for a trip to UNC. Needless to say, that's a lot of missed time right before AP and IB exams in May..

Will I be missing out on an important part of the decision-making process if I do not attend Dimensions?

Does your school have spring recess (easter break ) during this time?

For those who attend, dimensions is a amazing event. It is probably the only opportunity to meet a lot of other prospective freshmen (until you enroll and go on a DOC trip). I remember my D calling from Dimensions telling me to mail in her intent to enroll. It was something her having the some of the same friends she started out with all getting their degrees together. One of the best things about Dartmouth is the level of cohesiveness amongst the classes.

You will have an opportunity to sit in on classes, live in the dorms, eat the food, find what you like (and what you don't like) about Dartmouth. Search some of the threads for Dimensions so that you can get some feedback from other students who have attended. (Students who are admitted ED are welcome to attend Dimensions but they have to make their own arrangements).

The common response date is may 1 so you will want to get your visit done before then. If you know someone who attends perhaps you can work something out with them to come for a visit.

This year Dartmouth will have "Discover Dartmouth" April 9-10 and April 23-24 for students who can not make Dimensions. These shorter overnight programs will bring accepted students together to experience Dartmouth in a more abbreviated way. I hope you can attend one! If Dartmouth is the right place for you, I think you will know after attending Dimensions or Discover Dartmouth.

I think you'd be missing out on an important part of the decision process if you didn't spend at least some time on each of the campuses of the schools you are seriously considering attending. That being said, usually the special programs put on for admitted students don't give a complete or necessarily accurate impression of the college, but just visiting on your own and staying with a student don't either.

Basically, you should visit. Whether it's during Dimensions, on one of the other events we're apparently having, or on another unrelated visit, you should spend time on campus, talk to students, and perhaps even sit in on a class to give you a sense of whether or not you would actually want to spend the next four years of your life at this (or any other) school.

Alright, thanks guys. I'm going to try to make Dimensions or Discover Dartmouth but otherwise I'll just fly up there for a weekend.

Come to Dimensions. It will be worth it.

Yeah, I really think I'm going to Dimensions. D said they pay for the travel of those students with families making less than $75,000. Sweet.

Definitely come up here if for Dimensions or just on your own. It's really amazing and you will be glad for the chance to get an opportunity to see whether this is the place that you want to spend the next four years of your life. Dimensions is what solidified it for me and I am happy I made the decision to come check it out and feel that "fit feel" here @ Dartmouth.
Good Luck with your choices!! :D
