When do we get an invitation to this program? Does everyone get it? From what I've seen, they only invite a few people, but I have no idea how I could make the decisiont o matriculate if I didn't go.

Students who were admitted ED, do not get an invitation to Dimensions however, they are still free to attend (they will have to make their own arrangements so if you were admitted ED and you know someone on campus find out if they can host you).

Did you get a likely letter with an invitation to Dimensions?

If not when the RD decisions come out you will be invited to dimensions.

I strongly encourage everyone to attend Dimensions. The best thing about Dartmouth is something that's very hard to advertise - the people and the atmosphere. That's the reason why Dartmouth students love this school so much but people who visit for the weekend from other schools just don't get it. Dimensions really allows prospective students to experience the "Dartmouth culture" in my opinion. It really made the choice to come here a no-brainer for me.

when is dimensions? is it before or after regular decisions come out?

It's from April 18 to April 21, so...after decisions come out.

I received a likely but no dimensions invitation :(

^^ According to that thread, only a "select group" gets invited to campus... I received the version that the other posted, not the one the OP had.

Dionysus,

Congrats on getting a likely letter.

Don't sweat it. You will get your "official" admissions letter soon, at the invitation could be there. In addition, you can always contact admissions and let them know that you would like to attend Dimensions and they will work something out with you.

They may or may not be able to subsidize your trip, but they will make room for you to attend (if you are from the tri-state area, Dartmouth will have buses that will be leaving from NYC going to Dimensions). Just make sure you can work out the dates as there is a lop of overlap between visits, and you can't be 2 places at the same time or you may have to cut your trip short at one school to visit another (my D was really lucky, as there were a few days in between her vists so she was able to visit her top 3 choices).

I was admitted RD last year. At the time, wasn't sure where I was going to go. Dimensions pushed it over the edge for me, and made it clear why Dartmouth was the best choice for me. I can't recommend strongly enough that you go. Youll get the official invite with your acceptance letter. All-in-all, its a great time - a lot of fun, and a really rewarding experience.

In my likely letter, it mentions that Dartmouth will provide "assistance with transportation expenses" for "students who have demonstrated eligibility for need-based scholarship financial aid." What exactly does this mean, do you think? My family qualifies for need-based aid...but don't most people? My parents main concern is that as of now I have been accepted to 7 of my 11 schools and have only visited 2 of them. The remaining 5 are 1000+ miles away, and while I don't think I could ever matriculate somewhere without visiting, I just don't know how I'm going to pay for plane tickets to all of these different places. Dartmouth in particular is fairly isolated, and while I am dying to attend Dimensions, I just don't know how much money my parents can contribute to an airline ticket.

I would recommend talking to your parents then talking ot admissions regarding assistance in attending.

I also think that this is something that you need to keep in the back of your mid whatever school you end up choosing-the fact that you will eventually come home and the cost of doing so. While you may end up not coming home on short breaks (thanksgiving) or spring break, you will end up going home for at the end of the fall term for the holiday and at the end of the school year so it will ultimately be a factor (as no school is going to pay to fly you back and forth home). I would also recommend looking now for cheap flights during dimensions.

good luck

j07, it seems that Dartmouth is offering to pay for your ticket to Dimensions You should take them up on the offer if you want to get a sense of what campus is like. In the past they have paid for the entire trip for some students, so I think that you should call them for more details. Also, I think that only 47% of Dartmouth students receive financial aid, so no, most students do not qualify for need based aid.

dionysus-- i'm in the same situation. i got a likely letter on saturday but no dimensions invitation (actually, i freaked out when i initially saw a small envelope with one piece of paper from dartmouth admissions...). dartmouth is in my top 2-3, so i really want to visit at some point, but i kind of need to know asap so i can plan it around my crew practices and races.

so all RD kids get the invite?? and when are the official letters supposed to come out?

I received a likely letter a couple of weeks ago with the Dimensions invitation. It clearly states that they are providing lodging and meals but not transportation (Former SI is wrong with his/her assumption) However, they say that if you qualify for Financial Aid, you may be eligible for some kind of funds to help with that. This clearly means that if you need and qualify for aid to go to Dartmouth as a student, then the college will make some aid available for Dimensions as well. More paper work...but hell, well worth it j07!
