Dining Plan Screw Up

Well, I tried to sign up for a dining plan before leaving for Europe in early June, but their site was down. I didn't worry about it since they said that if a student doesn't sign up for a meal plan it defaults to plus-15 plan. No big deal, and I assumed I'd be paying a bit extra, but why worry.
I just went to see what I'm signed up for and there is nothing there!
Should I go ahead and sign up for the Brown 13 plan? Should I go to the "change your plan" section, even though I don't have a plan.
I got my ID at orientation, but is this how one "swipes" in at meals--or will I have a separate meal card (doubt it). By just looking at it, I can't tell if I have a meal plan or what????
I can sign up for the Brown plan (I'll be a proud Brownie), but don't want to be double billed.
What to do?!

your meal plan would have been included in your tuition bill i believe, so that is one way to check. you need to be signed up for a brown college meal plan to attend banquets with us. your id card is the same as your meal swipe in card. also, your card won't swipe in at our special brown swipe if you don't have a brown meal plan, i believe. which is a MAJOR plus since you can cut in front of the huge lunch lines that way.

there is also a way to switch your plan if you are signed up for one, you just email whatever the address is on the dining website and tell them to switch it for you.

Hazelorb, you are right, ----AGAIN!!!
I went immediately to my bill file and there it is! I have been billed for the Brown residential-15, and the Brown ACT fee. I don't know what the latter is, but I have a few guesses. Since all this was taken care of way before my orientation, I'm sure my ID card perfectly reflects all of the above. What a good feeling!
Do people get annoyed when Brownies cut in front of the long lines??? Is there a subtle way of doing this? I guess since I have more meals than I need, I could swipe others in, as you have alluded to before.
Two more weeks. OMG. I'm looking so forward to this though! I have moments of panic, but for the most part, I'm good.
Thanks again.

The ACT fee is the Brown activities fee. I never noticed Brownies cutting in front of me in a line, but maybe they are just smooth like that.

i never swiped you in malex???!?!?!?!? i know i have swiped julie in before

the way it works is we have a swipe right by the door of newcomb, the one closer to brown (there are 2 doors - one leads to the mexican/pasta section, and one to the hamburger/sandwich section - the sandwich one). you just walk up and there is a swipe machine that is accessible on the table. you swipe yourself in. people know we paid $800-$900 to get that thing so they can't complain.

you can swipe people in, i do it a lot. :) one time i swiped 5 people in - it was on one of the days on the lawn... a girl, her mom, and two of my friends, plus myself. i always had extra meals, especially when i went away on the weekend. then again, newcomb is closed on weekend nights so it is not that bad.

we have our own swipe, btw, for anyone who was wondering, because once it used to swipe us into the room we sit in. now, you don't need to be a brownie to sit there nor do you swipe in there, apparently because people were cheating the system or something... though who would do that, i dont know... it seems easier to cheat it the way it is now. not that i know anyone who does it. everyone always has extra meals.

No, you never swiped me in, and I never noticed any Brownies going for their card swiping machine. I, by chance, meet up with you at Newcomb, hazelorb.

maybe we'll have lunch at the same time this year or something... andre had lunch with me a few days a week last year, which was fun. we can sync our schedules at the activities fair.
