Diploma/GED question transfer

So I am in a crazy little pickle. Pretty much I dropped out of high school due to family issues and still haven't gotten my GED. I've been too busy at a community college full-time and haven't bothered to do so yet. I have a great GPA, I've completed over 70 credits, and now I will have my Associates of Arts degree this summer. I am from Minnesota where if you attend state schools you can pretty much complete your generals and by having your AA you are exempt from anymore general credits once you transfer out into another state school.

With that said, I am running out of time and need to start thinking about applying. I don't even have time to take the GED as I go to school full time every day (as well as work full time) and don't forsee any days free until finals are over. So, my question is: I know the college I want to apply to doesn't need any HS transcripts as I have over 30 credits. Every job I've gotten needed a HS diploma/GED and yet I still got the job (yes, by lying- good intentions as I've always meant to get around to it).

My question is: it's a second tier state school, nothing special, and I'm curious: what do they really look for? Do they confirm that every applicant graduated and from what school? It's the same application that any community college here requires, no essay required.

Also, can you apply twice if denied the first time, given time?

Some schools ask for it, some don’t. Honestly, you could probably take it and pass it without studying and you never know when you’ll need the certificate. I’m in the same boat since I dropped out and got a GED and 3 of the 5 schools I applied to for transfer asked for a copy of it.

Every school I applied to (nine!) wanted a copy of my final HS transcript in addition to my GED results. I wonder though, since you’ll have your AA, if they would waive their HS diploma/GED requirements; it could be worth calling to find out.

reesebear,

Pick up the telephone and call the college you are applying to. They will be able to tell you just exactly what is required of you as an applicant.

You also should pop by the transfer advisors’ office at your CC and talk with them about your options.

As to the need for a GED when you look for a job, why not take that question to the Parents Forum?

That’s funny happymomof1, I can’t seem to find where in my post that I asked anything about a need for a GED when I look for a job. It seems you are quick to tell me to go somewhere else when you didn’t read my post properly…

PS, I know it’s the internet, but do you realize how condescending you come off as? I am sorry my question was just too dumb and below you.

reesebear -

I had assumed that you thought the GED or a HS diploma was important for a job hunt because of what you wrote: “Every job I’ve gotten needed a HS diploma/GED and yet I still got the job (yes, by lying- good intentions as I’ve always meant to get around to it).”

Sorry to have upset you with my suggestion. I don’t hire people, so I can’t personally speak to the utility of a GED or HS diploma once one holds an A.A. However, some of the other parents here are responsible for hiring staff for one business or another. That is why I suggested you ask what I took to be a question of yours at that forum.
