Dis

I'm a pretty reserved, quiet person but lately I've been wanting to do something out of the ordinary, so I am thinking about studying with DIS in Copenhagen next spring. Has anyone been on it before that could comment on how it would be for someone that's not very quick to adapt to new surroundings?

Hey!

I’m doing my semester with DIS-Copenhagen right now. I’m not an outgoing person, so I chose to live with a host-family. I’ve been really happy with it, because whenever I’m feeling stressed out or culture-shocked, I have a family and a home to retreat to… the different housing choices completely alter what kind of experience you have at DIS. I felt for the first couple weeks that I was not making many friends with other DIS students (I’m bad at small talk and wasn’t meeting as many students as I would have in the kollegium or DIS-shared housing options), but I felt like I made a lot of meaningful connections on my core programs short study tour to Germany and Western Denmark.

Generally, Denmark is not a difficult place to adapt too, since it has a very similar cultural perspective to the states (as opposed to studying somewhere like Jordan or China). Still, I feel like I’m learning new things from my family every day. Copenhagen was a good choice for me to start stretching my comfort zone.

If you have anymore DIS questions, feel free to PM.
