Disabling anxiety second half of senior year

I’m so glad she is settling into the program and you are figuring out how to make it all work for her. Hopefully with that support and just getting done with the requirements for graduation will greatly reduce the stress for her, and for you.

D2 returned to boarding school this evening for the start of senior week. Praying she will be able to continue catching up enough work to walk in graduation, that she will be able to find joy in senior week, that she will hold it together…Many supports are in place. After graduation, she will return to intensive outpatient therapy, finish up outstanding work, and we’ll take it from there. Just hoping she can hold it together enough to see the fruits of her hard work for the last 4 years…

Here’s hoping she has a good week…and you too…

Hang in there, mom. Know our collective breaths are held in hopes your D gets though the week swimmingly. In your recent posts it seemed like she was making progress, so it’s not a naive hope. Best to both of you – from a mom who’s been there.

^^Ditto, @katliamom. Will be thinking about your D, 2eMom. Let us know how it turns out.

I am sending your D PV’s. It is so stressful for these kids. You have been a good Mom. It will work out, maybe not at same pace as the rest of the class, but it will work out. take care.

Just wanted to add that my heart goes out to you and your daughter. One thing that crossed my mind is that she experienced the loss of a parent. Grief manifests itself in many ways. I hope this is addressed in her treatment. I also give her enormous credit for going back to school for senior week and doing the best she can. She sounds very resilient and that will bode well for her, I’m sure. From all that you say, I have a feeling that in time she will be able to accomplish what she wants despite her setbacks.

The roller coaster continued–D2 went back for senior week but it was clear by Tuesday that it wasn’t working–she was too anxious to either get anything out of classes or enjoy the senior week activities. We shifted gears and she returned to intensive outpatient therapy, with trips down to school Wed. and Fri. for presentations and exams that needed to be finished. On Friday she finished the last requirement to walk in graduation! She stayed at school all weekend, went to half of senior prom and I picked her up when she got too tired. She participated in all the senior activities for the rest of the weekend and walked in graduation yesterday!!! She looked great–and the best part was afterwards when we were going to lunch and she said–“you go ahead, I’m going to socialize!”

Tomorrow she returns to intensive outpatient therapy and academic support–has incompletes in 3 classes and a project to make up which hopefully will happen in the next couple of weeks. And it looks like we won’t have to worry about any grades being too low which means her acceptance to college won’t be rescinded!

The program she just started is 8 weeks long–and then we will sort out what she will do for her gap year…

Thanks for all the encouragement! I am so relieved things went so well over the weekend… What a ride…

Thank you for the update. I’m glad to hear that your daughter was able to walk in graduation and that she could participate in some of the end-of-high-school activities. It is clear that she has great support from you and other family members. You are a Super Mom!

So a huge hurdle is behind you – congrats! It will be a huge relief for all of you once your daughter makes up her work and can totally focus on getting better and stronger. It will be a good summer - for all of you - and a good year. As #68 said, you’re a super mom and your daughter is lucky to have you, your patience, care and support. Kudos.

YAY!!! What wonderful news! You are amazing

…and more good news–D2’s college granted the one year deferral she had requested!

@2emomof2 I am glad to see that things are working out. I wish you the best of everything. You should be proud of yourself for doing such a great and supportive job in such a difficult time. Take a deep breath and reflect on all YOU have accomplished for your family. Bravo!

I had a feeling the school stuff would sort itself out. Now you can focus totally on your daughter’s well being. That must be a relief to the both of you.

So happy to hear things are working out for your D! You were smart to get her into intensive therapy as quickly as you did. Please keep us posted on her progress.

So here is an update. D2 just finished intensive outpatient DBT therapy. She also completed all of her outstanding schoolwork and just submitted all the documentation for her required service project, so she is all set to get her diploma!! She is on new meds and has made a lot of progress. She will do a gap year at a program for young adults on the autistic spectrum which will include some community college classes and life skills. Her college has agreed for her to defer admission for a year.

So proud of this kid and all the progress she has made already, with more growth and experience ahead. Thanks for all the support!

Great news! Thanks for the update.

@2eMomof2, Great to see this update! I hope she is feeling good about her progress.

Yay!!! Thank you for the update! That’s wonderful, wonderful news

I’m really happy for her and for you.
