When I was filling out the common application, under first language, I put "English" because I thought that it meant the language you knew best. I didn't give that question any thought under after I've sent like 10 applications to 10 different colleges. Then I noticed the question mark next to it, and it said that I should have put the language I learned FIRST, which was Chinese. Also, in my special circumstances essay, I wrote about how moving from China to U.S. without knowing a single word of English posed as a challenge. But isn't this contradictory since I put English instead of Chinese as my first language??? CRAP!!!!!!

Do you think colleges will reject me after seeing this??? I'm really nervous....GAAHHHH....I don't want them to think that I'm lying or anything...

P.S. I sent this "mistake" to all my dream schools: Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Yale, Stanford =(((

Do you think the admissions committee will hold this mistake against me???

I'm like in a nervous breakdown now, can't believe I made such a mistake....

Well personsonally I couldn’t see you being rejected from any of these institutions because of one mistake on your app. I’m sure the ad com would understand

I don’t think that one mistake will kill your app. You can always email the admissions offices at each school (if it’s not too late) to correct it.

^^ I agree don’t waste the admissions officer’s time anymore pianodude… you inconsiderate, cavalier little nitwit… how could you even think you would get into those schools?

LOL jk im not a cutthroat typical harvard-wannabe senior

Just send an email to clarify. Don’t even mention that it contradicts the essay. Just say it has come to your attention that the prompt on the application may have asked for “native” language as opposed to “primary” language and you interpreted it as the latter.
