Disbursement dates and delays

Hello all, Can disbursement dates be given and then actual deposits be done weeks later..in other words it shows payment made on the account (as if to comply with governmental deadlines) but weeks (usually its 2), go by and nothing is in the actual bank account yet. The school claims it is usual...When we call the bank they say absolutely not as soon as they receive the info for a disbursement it is noted on the account and visible for the client to see even if the funds aren't available yet, so that means that the funds aren't actually released by the school?? can this be true? If so why the lying over and over? It was never an issue in the past with another college i attended but this one seems to do this over and over. My question is am I being too impatient and is this a very normal practice these days? I am a graduate student and its been years since i had to deal with financial aid and the such.

Yes. Some schools hold loan funds for a certain amount of time before they will be released as refunds to the student. This is within the regulatory guidelines. The money WAS disbursed (to your account) … you just didn’t get a refund until later. It is not a lie that your school is telling you.
