I have a disciplinary history from junior year regarding a school trip. I have already submitted to multiple schools with my required explanation but recently found out that my school (private) selected “school policy prevents me from responding”, meaning they did not have any input regarding this issue. My counselor is a terrible communicator and I haven’t been able to address this issue, and I’m worried it’s too late. I was considering having him or the head of school address the issue in a positive light so that my explanation matches up to the school’s, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea.
I’ve heard of many private schools who select that vague option, which basically allows the student to select “no” and suppress the issue. But I haven’t found any regarding my situation, and I’m so terrified.
Is it worse that the school didn’t mention anything regarding disciplinary history and I did, or will that reflect my honesty/integrity to some extent? Also, should I ask my head of school or counselor to write a letter of sorts to address the issue, or will that make the situation more apparent to the schools I’ve already applied to?
Don’t start multiple threads on the same topic. Your post is confusing. Did the GC school form indicate that you’d had a disciplinary action? Was your explanation apologetic and showing what you’d learned, or will it sound like excuses?
Any time there are disciplinary issues revealed in the application process, it is a good idea to apply to a few extra safeties.
Sorry, new confused user.
In my opinion, the explanation was thoughtful and reflective, I demonstrated what I learned through the experience and how I’m continuing to grow from it. It might have been longer than most, but I put a lot of effort into demonstrating how I’m becoming a better member of my school community.
I’m not sure what you mean by GC school form, but the incident doesn’t appear anywhere in my school reports or transcripts-- the only indication on my app that I have any disciplinary issues was from my own writing. I 'm just unsure whether or not it’s enough to only come from me, or if the school administration should take action. My school is new and inexperienced with this kind of situation, so it seems like nobody really knows what the best course of action is.
If you admitted and the school did not, what are you worried adcoms will do? Ding you for not matching the school’s check box?
It depends on what you did wrong. Adcoms know kids. If you broke curfew, probably no reaction. If you were caught dealing drugs or arrested, another situation entirely.
The Counselor form is part of their submission to the colleges you applied to. That’s where they answered about discipline.
