Discuss Your Avatar

I see that as we are getting used to this new interface, we are trying on different avatars as we search for that perfect embodiment of our virtual selves. Let's use this thread to discuss our choices.

First, I chose a picture of the St. John chapel at Choate because it was a nice picture that could stand in the gap while I searched for something more personal. I have a great pic of June Cleaver, who is my alter ego, but the "right to use" message when you upload your file makes me think twice about that one.

This one represents what I must sound like when ChoatieKid is rolling his eyes at me. My other favorite is, "Don't make me put my hands on my hips!"

The new interface totally stymied me for a few days. I was traveling and generally rely on the CC app on the iPhone. That app seems dead with the new interface so I’m just accessing CC thru Safari. (Also my blanket apology for why there are consistently so many spelling mistakes in my posts. Between having big fingers and iPhone autocorrect, the odds are certainly not in my favor!)

I notice how PelicanDad totally avoided discussing his avatar
I like your pelicans. Without my reading glasses, I thought at first they were origami cranes. ;D

Because of “right to use”, I’m using only pics I’ve taken. Thus, I think I’m outing myself to my Facebook friends. Hopefully there aren’t any overlap between my fb friends and CC preppers. X_X

Payn’, I’m still basking in the glow of being able to create an avatar! Yeah. They’re pelicans. None too original, I grant you. :)

Back to the chapel. It makes more sense with my handle. I think I’ll stick with this. I’m kinda with payn4ward about using my own photos. Love your snow cushions BTW. I’m working in the garden today, warm and sunny here. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m having trouble deciphering some of the avatar images because they end up being so teeny-tiny in the thumbnail. I went with a text image to see if it was more easily recognizable.

@PelicanDad are you a St. Paul’s parent or a Loomis parent? Just wondering.

I believe Loomis. That’s why the pelicans.

Hmm, didn’t know SPS also has pelicans. But from previous postings I’m sure PDad’s child is at Loomis.

Yes. & I’m Wahoo, too!

Oh, here’s the avatar thread. I never remember to look at the cafe anymore now that there is nothing on the screen to show that there are new messages. I still love the mom pic, CM, but I get you. I spent a long time going through the photos Google told me were legal to use before I found my polar bear twins.

The twins are adorable :x

Hoos from 1982? . . . was a PST major in the CLAS

How about my daughter’s fuzzy lop?! I really should find a cute photo of my naughty dog, Apollo. :)

Wahoo here too–one year ahead of you in CLAS Charger.

My avatar was a classical pillar. I took it, probably illegally, from the website of the homeschooling board I lived on before my kid went off to boarding school. Anyway, I’ll now probably stick, legally, with my kid’s silly pinewood derby car–not name related but sticks out more.

Any Hoos here remember Ernest “Boots” Mead of the Music Department? He’s mostly in a nursing home, mid-90s, hanging on now after a vigorous old age. Tom Darbyshire led the way in setting up the Mead Endowment to foster teacher-student relationships outside of the classroom and it’s funding great things. Consider googling and a gift!

For the record: I’m not completely satisfied with my camera but I’m going with it…

Roasted cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and sweet potato. My best food photo. My mom just got a new credit card and put this photo on it! :)

My favorite musical decade to listen to and to play for a crowd. IMHO this decade had it all; singer songwriters, rock, R&B, disco, glam, punk, country, etc. The band list/songs are exhaustive, the lyrics understandable and meaningful, amazing harmonies, and those slamming horns… Remember 8tracks, reel to reel, Quadraphonic sound? For those of us who grew up in the 70s, it is the decade of music that made memories.

^^^+1000

Going to see Barry Gibb Sat. May 31st, Concord Pavilion (CA). Be still my heart.
