Disheartened about scores... need advice

i got my SAT 2 results today.... way below what i expected... though don't know what possessed me to expect good scores since i fell sick on the test day and also, since this was my first ever SAT:

lit = 670
math 1 = 630
math 2 = 550

vassar told me it'll consider my two highest scores (lit and math1)... however im worried/thinking abt the following things:

a) though it says it requires 2 SAT IIs... vassar will get to see my 550... won't that affect their assessment?

b) when asked to list my scores in the application, am i to list all 3 or only my highest 2?

c) how important are these SAT II scores?

d) how do i overcome them and show the adcom that i'm better than what my scores say?

e) how much should i aim for in SAT I to make them look beyong my SAT II?

f) should i include a note with my application saying that i was sick?

note: i'm applying ED1, will take SAT I on nov 5th, am international student needing a lot of aid, have good ECs, 3.65 ish GPA (low GPA in freshman/sophomore yrs but higher one in junior/senior yr)

...bump...

100 views... no reply?

I wouldn't include a note saying you were sick.

Just try to make your essay blow them away, etcetera. your scores certainly aren't debilitating.

I'm just a student, just as desperate as you, but that's my two cents.

ha ha, finally a reply... :D thanks... i already mailed it without a note and i donno how my essays were, hope they like them though

You didn't take the ACT?

we are not offered ACT - i'm applying as an international :)

I agree with Strat....I'm not sure the note was a good idea, but then don't worry about it. I think that if everything else is good/great, you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm also wondering about the fact that I took my SAT1's twice in a row and the second scores are a lot better (by 200 points or something, I don't remember). The first time was the most stressful week of the spring for me and I got something like 14 hours of sleep over the four nights prior to the test, including one night of an hour or something (and the last night before the test was like 7 hours, so it was really uneven). My point is that I was a wreck when I took the test, and the score shows it.

I wonder sometimes whether Vassar will look at the first score and consider it even the tiniest bit, but frankly it isn't that important, you know? I'm sure it doesn't make that big of a difference.

thanks for the reply, seole - i mailed it without the note. SAT scores are scarily dependent on the kind of day you're having - i had very little sleep the day before my SAT II; gave 3 tests in a row in an empty stomach, fell sick halfway through my Math IIC - such a complete disaster (as you can see).

tell me about it... I had 12 hours of sleep the week before I took SAt II's with an all nighter in the middle of the week. I didn't hear my alarm, I got up at 7:30, and had to scramble to get there. I got lost, couldn't find my id and showed up at 8:20 with my yearbook in tow. It was hard to think on the test bc I was so tired...but I ended up with a 700 for Literature, which isn't too bad.

gah standardized tests. it is nice though that colleges will look at your highest splits instead of individual tests. I know the first time I took the SAT 1 I did well on the CR and alright on M and W. The second time was almost the opposite (especially the CR). I got scared that they might think there was something wrong with me...since there was more than a 100 point decrease in my CR...buuut I don't think they cared so much. They just want to take your highest scores because it makes you and the college look better.

i know they look at the two highest scores for SAT II, but what about any other lower ones? i got a low bio score as a freshman (550) and I really don't want it to bring me down, especially since I don't think I will be pursuing a career in science.

Don't worry, it won't bring you down. I had the same thing with the chem sat II. They won't take it into consideration when reviewing your file.

yep, sugaredlemon's right. don't worry about it. i emailed them with this question and they said they look at only the highest two scores.
