God-Awful SAT II scores...

Okay, here's the question. I had one school that required SAT II scores out of 7 applying to. None of the others even recommended them, but I took it for this one school. I just got them back, and they were pretty bad...like, unexpectedly bad in the worst way. Although my other schools didn't want them, they will see them in the report. Will this hurt me? I didn't really know much about the tests, or what a good score even is, but seeing the percentiles of my scores, my scores certainly aren't amoung the good scores. They were:
Math IC: 570
Lit: 590
Writing: 590

Eh, I'm so screwed.
Anyway, if it helps, the schools I'm worried about are:
Goucher
Skidmore
Muhlenberg
Dickinson
Franklin and Marshall
Juniata
None of them require or want SAT II's. I never had a chance at the one that did, Vassar, so now I'm kinda mad I took them in the first place. My parents are the ones pushing me to apply to Vassar, because they liked the campus and all that good stuff. What is a good score, anyway? My SAT I was a 1300, so these numbers seem a tad off. Not happy at all.

By the way, I don't really have the option to retake, as my first applications are due December 15th.

um....bump?

its ok, the same thing happened to me. i have a 1310 on the SAT and i got a 570 in math , and 620 in writing

Well, at least I know it's not entirely abnormal to have this much of a gap. I really have no idea what a "good" score is on the SAT II, but it doesn't seem to me like this is it. Of course, looking at this board tells me nothing, as most people here have absolutely stellar scores. eh, I don't know...

I don't think you need to worry. First of all, skidmore strongly suggests (though doesn't require) 3 sat2s. I think it looks better for your application that you sent them-so don't have regrets re sending them when they aren't actually required. Second, you need to realize that there is a different set of kids taking sat2s from the population that takes only sat1s. Even if your percentiles are lower, they are lower in a more select group. Colleges recognize this. Muhlenberg (and dickinson?) don't even require sat1. That lets you know how much value they attach to these exams. You are a match for skidmore; goucher is a safety. Don't remember much re franklin and marshall scores- we crossed that one off awhile ago (too preppy or too many frats-can't remember) and don't know about juniata.

As further evidence of the randomness these scores can assume: my daughter scored in the top 25% of all students on her AP US history exam. She scored in the bottom 25% on the SAT2 US history exam. Obviously, these exams are testing somewhat different abilities. But nonetheless, i think it is laughable that she could score so differently on the two tests. . She is also looking at skidmore and goucher, btw, and her sat1 is lower than yours.

Thanks! This is all very helpful. I really didn't know what a good score was going into this, and didn't really know how colleges looked upon them, I just knew what they about and that I needed to take them. Also, yeah, Franklin and Marshall is pretty low down on my list. My top two are Goucher and Skidmore...well, their more fighting for first place in my mind than being my top two.
