disqualification from Cal Grant?

I wish New York state has that too. I know a few low income students used their student loans to cover the mandatory health insurance in order to attend the state schools. (The NY state schools also require very good coverage to waive the university insurance.)

“why are you concerned that you wont get any aid? You have been given a pkg with very generous aid…so why worry that you wont get aid??? You got aid.”

Because I received my aid package from UCB before I got disqualified, so I was thinking they would cancel/lower my initial award.

As if many with insurance will bother. They’ll just take the free insurance and the school will be wasting precious funds…crazy.

I don’t know if Cal Student Aid Commission and your school are out-of-sync or not. You may want to double-check with your school’s award letter to see if “Cal Grant” was mentioned. Contact your school’s financial aid office too.

^ The student did not graduate from a California high school - they arrived in California as an adult - and so they are not eligible for the CalGrant. They are receiving UC grants in place of the CalGrant.

^Are UC/CSU schools always know if students getting Cal Grants or not?

Yes, from what I can see, it seems to be an integrated process.

Update:
They replied to my inqury and said that my aid was determined before Cal Grant even considered my paper work, so it looks like they aren’t really in sync; so it looks like UCB is giving their grants based on FASFA alone.
